Horses for courses. I buy a helmet to keep my head in one piece which is why I buy the ones with the best proven safety record - others buy their helmets based purely on a desire for the fancy graphics and others so they have a sun visor when needed. We all have different criteria when deciding what to buy.

Personally I'd rather spend £300 on a helmet that I know won't fail in a crash situation and I'm prepared to do without an internal sun visor to get one. I prefer double D rings because I know they are safer than seat belt types and actually easier to use if you show a bit of patience when first learning how to do them up.

You can change an Arai visor for a new one in less than 15 seconds - I did a video a few months ago demonstrating it for some numpty who thought it took half an hour.

Quality helmets like Arais and Shoeis don't use strap material that frays - you get what you pay for.

i understand what you are saying but i dont think there are many helmet failure even on cheap £35 helmets, and arai helmets straps may not be prone to fraying but i have personally seen one sent for repair because the strap was frayed and the fraying was getting worse and if arai didnt repare it under warranty then it would have been scrap, and to some extent you get what you pay for but with arai and others you are paying for the name

Nonsense - you're paying for a helmet that's had huge amounts spent on development and materials that last, hence the 5 year guarantee. Arai straps fraying is usually caused by velcro on collars scuffing it up. That can be avoided by using the velcro properly or doing the strap up correctly. Arai will replace it once FOC, then you're on your own.

I wholesaled budget helmets for years, I've seen how they are developed and unsurprisingly more money is put towards graphics design than safety development.

Was that sarcasm earlier or are Sharp ratings not worth going by?

As someone who's had multiple Arai, Shoei, HJC, FM, Roof and Caberg lids...

I'll be sticking to arai as my main lid but I keep a couple of hjc's as spare lids just in case I need a spare or I break the arai and can't buy a replacement straight away

Wouldn't buy Caberg/FM again, I'd buy Shoei but they don't seem to fit my head anymore.. Roof was ok but a bit noisy,

Never had any issues with fraying straps either, and as lozzo says, takes max 30 seconds to change a visor / pinlock on an arai once you get the knack

Sharp ratings are garbage...

Seriously, I wouldn't take any notice of the Sharp ratings. They screwed up when interpreting the crash data and test the helmets in completely the wrong areas and in the wrong way.

If we all bought gear of the web then there would be no local bike shops. So when you need something quick, how are you going to get it. I like to have a relationship with people, who will then help out if I need something quick or a hand. Its just not the same over a computer, nor does it help our community. Everything has its place having said that.

Aria lids are very good, though the price has shot up to replace my RX-7 is a lot of money now, thought I have tell you go put a HJC lid on after an aria you know the difference! As second lid, it could be an option.

I don't see why people want to spend £50 on a lid, I want something descent protecting me. I'd still like to hearing feedback on the HJC lids thought, I would try Shoie but they just don't fit me as I wear an xs lid atm, it would be nice to have option should I need get a lid quick.
