The attitude of "my existance owes me pleasure" is complete Bull, your existance owes you nothing but to simply exisit. Its up to you how you choose to exisit. Some will choose to sacrifice their vices in order to live more comfortably. Others will prioritise those vices and as such be unable to fund bikes/cars/holidays. The very unlucky few wont even have that choice, but no one on this forum or mentioned within that article is in such a restricted position.

Theres a guy in my street who has 11 kids and currently brings in around £40k a year in benefits, i think there was a programe on channel 4 about him a couple of years back. He's very well educated, a Professor but is struggling to find work since being made redundant . Since he has started on benefits he says that he has had no job offers that even come close to what he receives on benefits and simply cannot afford to live on less with the size of his family. i know he is still applying for work as I see him getting suited up and going for interviews.. Just an example of someone who is trying and in a catch 22 position.

He has 11 kids though!! How irresponsible is that? The only reason why he deserves any compassion is because the kids themselves are innocents and don't deserve poverty. What a nob! I have zero sympathy for him, and in fact, it annoys me greatly that he's put himself in a situation where we, as compassionate people, have no choice but to support him, because he was foolish enough to father a football team.

I think he should be given money, and his kids should be clothed, fed and entertained, but someone should be there to make sure he only gets to eat gruel and has to live outside in a shed in the cold while his kids are watching sky.

Fixed for you.

Entertainment is a luxury, luxuries should not be funded by the state.

So a professor, who is highly educated and has fallen upon hard times, is irresponsible, and a nob?

Someone, who goes out in a suit every day to find work to support his family, not much different to some bloke in a council house sending out job applications.

Do you expect to be burned at the stake too, if you were to lose your job?

It's nothing to do with being unemployed. I expect to be flogged within and inch of my life if I father 11 kids.

I don't really understand how people can think that's responsible. There are so many issues.

While I am on a roll then

Housing Benefits should be paid directly to the Landlord

Food should be provided as Vouchers, preferably in partnership with Tesco/Asda/Morrisons and be restricted to certain catagories/ranges.

Get Jamie Oliver to come up with recipe cards, so you can order "shepherds pie for 4" and you get potatoes. mince, carrots, onion and the instructions on making it into said shepherds pie. Might not be as cheap as could be done if 4 portions of ready-meal were just sent out, but the home-made is going to be better for you and more nutritious. So people can shop from a menu and get the relevant ingredients.

Clothing, vouchers again - Primark will do.

No provision for Tobacco or Alcohol.
