LOL!!!

Gav - The trailer has already been built to a certain spec and as long as you don't go over the original intended loads then it will be fine. Indespension is fine, plus its really easy to sort if things break, I'd just leave it like it is.

Incidentally, has it got an original manufacturers plate on the chassis?

No it hasn't, although the hitch, lights and tyres are E stamped and according to a regulations leaflet stretchie sent me that's all that needed?

Would I be breaking any laws if I made my own plate stating the max weights ect?

No need really as it is all done from the rating of the wheels and whether it has an emergency brake. You'll be fine using a trailer tent trailer for carrying 2 bikes. You can pull up to half the weight of the towing vehicle without the need for for a braking system.

My cars just under 1.9 tons so combined I'd be no where near the 3.5 limit

Well job done then fella. Like I said, we've built trailers from scratch here and never had 1 done by the fuzz. If it looks safe and your under the maximum weight permitted by your license and trailer then you will be fine.

Won't be finished for a few weeks, going to make a start of the wheel grips tomorrow evening.

Still a fair bit of work to do, finish wheel grips, rear tiedowns, wheel bearings, tyres and paint. But no time to do any of it

And I need it finished by end of October as I'm off to snetterton

Edit: and mudguard brackets

Does anyone know about the safety chain on the tow hitch?

You have to have on by law, all the local towing shop can provide is some crappy bit of galvanized cable with a clip on the end that wouldn't hold up my trouser and the strongest chain I can find is rated at 150kg, I can't see a safety chain being able to hold 500kg or more?
