Is not what you say, its how you say it. Actually what you say pretty much means nothing, if you can read people you don't need to say anything at all.

The same bouncer tried the same thing on me a few weeks ago, "Excuse me, toilets for customers only". To which I replied, "Yes, I am aware of that and as I am a customer I am now going to use the toilet before I buy another coffee."
That's all that was required. I save my smart **** comments for the traffic wardens, when I don't have my bike there, so when they try to book me I can show them my bus pass.

To be fair, I wouldn't expect bouncers are particularly used to having act politely, it's kind of in their job description to assume a threatening manner otherwise more people take the pish. If you've provoked him with remarks that fuelled a sense-of-humour failure then it's your own fault. Any bouncers I've met are sound lads with fantastic senses of humours but if you cross the line and act like a c0ck then you get it back, tenfold. You must have portrayed the wrong body language/facial expressions for the conversation to go the way it did. If you had treated the situation as Ralph suggests then the whole situation would never have escalated.
Oh and having cApiTaL Tourette's won't help matters either, I'll assume you've not copied and pasted your letter into your OP. You can't expect someone to go to the effort of replying to poor presentation. |

The staff do that in the local McDonald's occasionally.
I always ask them if they want me to take the food into the toilet with me or leave it lying around to be stolen or cleaned up while I wash my hands. Bouncers are bouncers, if you really did wind up shaking with fear then you obviously got yourself into a situation you shouldn't have, unless you've got the personality to handle it I'd suggest taking the politeness route next time. |

A woman came into my office last week claiming her doctor had conspired with Gregs the Bakers to kill her by drugging her Pasty. It took a minute to realise that she wasn't all there.
It was easy to disregard her or send her on her way as she wasn't happy when I tried to explain that my organisation couldn't help and became abusive. At this point one could say "I can't be bothered with this. Leave or I'll call the Police you nutter" or "How would you like us to help" - even though I knew there's nothing we could do. The latter calmed her down. You're right, its the way its said. But I imagined people would have been more concerned with how the bouncer reacted. Yes, he's doing a job but would I like to see that as an employer? What if the bouncer did give him a slap for being cheeky? Surely part of his job is learning how to deal with difficult customers. I wouldn't have responded as the OP did, whether it was bouncer or staffmember. But you know, I've also experienced people intimidating others just because they have perceived authority. Ok scold the OP for his response but very few people have mentioned that what the bouncer did was very wrong. Btw, love the Fonejacker clip. |

I think you overreacted. I think they'll ignore your complaint or file in the mrs miggins bored old lady file. I would. You could easily have made it ok but you antagonised him just like he antagonised you. It's all just a bit silly. Have a nice chocolate biscuit, here, I've got one left I ate the other five and felt a lot better.
