I find it just as useful for bike-related stuff, just that there's a lot more other stuff going on. And to be honest, i don't see why that's a problem, as long as it's kept out of the SV Talk, Tuning and Tweaking and Biking Issues section, which it mainly is. Personally I don't visit Idle Banter much, because of the poor signal-noise ratio, but it's been like that as long as I can remember. That's what it's for, as far as I can tell- keeps the other bits unpolluted

I don't see how the megaposts bother anyone, since all you need to do is not read a post with more than 5 pages By and large, i've found the format changes to be positive, though I still reckon Town Cryer should be wrapped into whatever the "main" section's considered to be, so that it actually gets read.

But I wonder if there's maybe room for more idle banter sections, I think that maybe getting Jokes back would be a step in the right direction?

I don't think that having these chats and "irrelevant" conversations is a bad sign at all- it shows that the site's being succesful for getting people together, getting people chatting... If all we had to talk about was our bikes it'd be awful dull.

I suspect that nobody knows, to be honest. But I reckon a visit to SVRider might help, IIRC all the US bikes got the pair system in some form or another, but ours don't?

I'm relatively new, so can only provide a limited opinion but I agree with Viney's point.

So what do we make it? Well, it's probably the friendliest bike forum out there. Banter is just banter and there appear to be few, if any, people in the forum who's sole purpose is to offend. Newbies are always warmly welcomed and are not treated as inferior due to the newbie status ...unlike other forums.

One of my Tuning/Tweaking questions also went unanswered until I pm'd my enquiry to which I had a quick, simple and informative reply to.

Finally, credit where it's due. It can't be pleasant to run a site like this and put in your time/energy only to find people questioning the quality of it. Yet it's being discussed openly and constructive critisism is therefore being acknowledged.

I think people underestimate the time and effort John and Greg put in myself.... Just like to say a big thanks again to the effort they put in!!

They look after the site for the good of all the users and any changes are done after consideration and consultation with users on the most part...

The site does seem to have developed into more of a community than being purely focused now but for alot of users thats a good thing, How many people have made new good friends on here?

I know I for one had no-one to go on rideouts with and knew no other bikers to socialise with in my area before coming on here and now have met alot of people and allowed others to meet people with the essex section, and there's always something going on....

I don't see the problem with the amalgamated sections as now people know posts about the sv are going to be in the sv part, other bikes will be in the biking issues and any other stuff non bike related is going to be in idle banter..... Agree completely with Viney about the search function being underutilised but hopefully this will be more prominent in the new site design and should stop alot of the repeated posts as for the rubbish spouted quite often in idle banter, if you don't want to read it don't ? its not doing any real harm to anyone is it??

No-one who has specified about the site "being like it was" has specified anything specific ? There was always garbage in idle banter... abeit not as much... There was never a joke/humour section originally ? and some of the sections which have gone have done so because they were under utilised

As for the posts about there not being posts about the sv... Why don't these people post topics about the sv ?? There isn't much that already hasn't been discussed, maybe thats the problem?

I too think it's become a chat room, but then again I don't spend my whole day thinking and talking about SV's, so perhaps the forum is reflecting the real world.

John
This was NEVER meant as a personal dig at you or greg, and I don't spend all my time thinking of SV's (well not all day anyway ).

I truly believe we have got to blame websense and other firewalls for the Chat element. however it makes the site really hard work if you use the posts since last logged in feature (which i tend to use).

how do we stop it (god knows) but maybe some of those reading this will stop it by themselves.

msn messenger and yahoo ,aim , icq etc are all designed for chatting and should be used for such.

the site is great for information and socially for meetings and rideouts, and the sections for geographical areas are great. It's just taking up so much time to reject the tripe out of the good.

I have said my piece and the votes seem to agree with only 20% thinking it's great the way it is.

I am sorry I have no answer to the issues I personally find distracting and time consuming but i suppose thats life ehh !

I think maybe it's time I bowed out from the site. it's been informative and fun meeting people and sharing knowledge, but it is really taking too much time to trawl through.

keep it rubber side down people (let's not have anymore losses or injuries neither).

The previous time that the site changed, there was a lot of community consultation and discussion before hand and the majority seemed to be happy with the changes, as we'd all pretty much agreed on them. This time, the changes were suddenly sprung on us without asking. I think that's upset quite a few people (myself included). I wouldn't go so far as to say that the admin is on a power trip - I think that he genuinely wanted to improve the site - but we were pretty much happy with how it was and the changes were too dramatic and sudden.
