Yeah - my car is a W-reg 2000.

1999 will be T or V reg.

We're talking about SV model codes, not reg.
Or at least, I was, what you lot were talking about isn't really relevent to me. I can carry on a conversation without even involving another person.

You mean they're not the same thing?

I thought the model number/reg was the same until 2001, when the model code became K1, and so forth.

Make sure that she's fully serviced/lubed before you drive away. That includes all cables, the chain, suspension linkages etc. Oil and filter are a must unless documents show a very recent change.

I'd make sure that the brake fluid is new, too.

Tyres will very likely be either new or near to the end of their life. Check it out.

Your "waranty" will most likely be "mechanical brakedown insurance" rather than anything more cast-iron from Suzuki. It is likely that the terms will require servicing at an authorised service agent.

As usual - my fault. See Sid Squids post for the correct situation. Ignore me completely.

Ok, quick rundown.

'99 = X model which are usually T or V reg
'00 = Y model which are usually V, W or X reg
'01 = K1 which are usually X, Y or 51 reg.
'02 = K2 which are usually 02 or 52 reg

Obviously this doesn't account for private plates and leftover stock, but it's an idea.

Going back to the cheques, there's a thing called late return, which means that a cheque can occasionally be bounced outside of the clearing cycle. Not likely after 2 full weeks though. Don't take for granted anything a bank staff member tells you at the counter, in my experience counter monkeys know very little about what's actually going on behind the scenes.

You may be able to have your own bank do a special presentation- of the cheque- bsaically clears it irreversibly before funds are released.

Jabba said a couple of things that want picked up I think...
One, bank drafts can be returned if the're stolen or forged.
Two, "You could take the cash out of your current account once the cheque has cleared and put it into another account. That way your bank won't be able to refund the money, assuming that their doing so would leave you overdrawn, etc." - Not actually the case, whether the funds are in your account or not they'll have the right to return the cheque and therefore render you massively overdrawn, under the various cheques and clearing acts.

Some kind of fraud prevention thing? Seems like the banks have us stitched up like a kipper if this is the case
