Two great rides.

I also have a route plan for 180 miles which passes through Newbury although it starts for me at Basingstoke, I will be riding this in the next few weeks you are welcome to come along
I did the B4000 this weekend, really good road. THAT is a road where I hopefully learn some cornering skills again and build up my confidence.

Thanks everyone that has donated appropriate roads that I can try out. Patch I would be more than happy to ride with you, so long as you don't mind a rider with shattered confidence trying to follow you

I am not riding much at the weekends at the moment, too many family commitments but if you are available during the week (I am manage my own diary) always willing to get out, it has the advantage of there being little or no police presence.

You actually now live on the edge of what I believe to be the best biking roads in the South of England. I say the edge because since Oxfordshire love affair with the 50 mph limit they no longer hold the standing they did. Any further west and the roads you want to rid get clogged up in the summer with caravans and tourist traffic, any further east and theres too many towns and people. We may not be blessed like our Scottish brothers but there's still a lot of choice.

Here's another one for you;

Newbury to Andover (A343) then the A 342 through Ludgershall,

If you are out for a quickie take the 338 to Hungerford and finish on the B4000 if you have more time stay on the 342 all the way to Devizes then the 361 to Avebury (beware the law on this and the next road at weekends) then the A4 through Marlborough picking up the 346 to Burbage and then the 338 as described on the quickie route.

As for the confidence thing, you had a big off last year, thats bound to have affected your confidence and to be honest I think that many of us would have never got back on a bike after what you went through. It will take time to get both the confidence and the skill back, I did for me after only breaking a few ribs a couple of years ago. Why not tootle down to the next TVAM meet at Wokingham, you would certainly gain in confidence from a few observed rides and as a plus would likely learn the best biking routes available to you from others who ride them.

I think the A343 between Newbury ans Andover deseves a mention as well.
It gets quite interesting once passed Highclere, almost empty of traffic the times i've been down it. Also some nice scenic roads to the west going though Ashmanswoth, Faccombe and onto Combe with Combe gibbet on the hill.

Joke a side though, if I find that I can't pick up the confidence any more by myself I will seek help. Probably on the track as all I have is a morbid fear of going round a bend and hitting something. All other aspects of my riding I am fine about.

I am busy entering all the routes suggested on autoroute great stuff and thanks
