To say that it sounded like a purely opportunistic theft and just 'one of those things' is really weak I know - but sometimes the truth does sound feeble, espescially when it sucks so much. Sorry.

There's little defence against being hoiked into a van, even if you'd have had a pager for your alarm it may not have helped much. Working in a team like that with a driver ready at the wheel gives little margin for stopping them.
Bottom line, no what if's or maybe's... there simply is no blame to be attached to either of you. It'll take time to realise this, and with the current situation as you've described with Vic's Mum - her reaction is naturally going to be to take things upon herself in the worse possible way.
Which is of course going to cause you to do the same.

Take it easy and concentrate on the positive things. A witness is a rareity, and one that has been on the ball enough to take down the van number is even more so. Here's hoping this little bit of good luck comes good and leads to arrests and hopefully a recovery.

Best wishes.

Is it taxed now?
If not - you've got your documents, pop down to the post office and get a 6 month one and stick it in your wallet.
If anything does come of it then as you have got a valid disc I can't see anyone being a ******* enough to do you for not getting it on time - you have reasons. At least you got one, kinda thing - and it'll be back dated to the 1st of June anyway.

I doubt anything will come of it, if you get one late - but do get one. It's only if you don't get one and/or try to say that it wasn't present on the bike at the time of the theft (for security reasons guv'nor) that it'll become an issue I would have thought.

You can always refund it (less the time used) once the claim has been sorted anyway.

Thxs K, yeah today has not been too bad...I think it was just a reaction to what happened. As for the tax disc I bought one first thing this morning but it was just begining to get to me and I was worried they would use it to not pay

Bad sh*t.

Let's hope that (assuming it's a false plate) they're stupid enough to continue using it ... then perhaps some 'proper' justice can prevail

Spoke to the police yesterday, they wanted to know more about the lady who gave me the Reg number and what part she was unsure of. Well from what she told me it was the back part thats why she gave me two versions.."ah" says the office, it's because we have found a possible but it's the front part that we changed and as from what you told us ie back part she was unsure of etc it's not enough for us to go knock on their door unless when I do a back ground check the person or van is known to us.....
So THATS COMPLETE CRAP if I had said at the begining of the convo that it was the front part she was unsure of he would now get someone togo and knock on their door oh and you don't stand much chance of getting your bike back sir never do with the big bikes bah!!!

Make a written complaint to a senior officer, copying in his senior (make some phone calls and find out) and also the Met Commisioner. Politely throw the proverbial at the fan and see what happens.
