I'm going to attempt to explain the string thing as was explained to me by Sid Squid. I will probably do a very bad job of it and Sid will be along to shoot me down in flames.
Firstly you need to make sure that the front wheel is dead straight to the bike. Once you have done this you need to tie a piece of string to something left or right of the rear wheel and bring the string around the back of the wheel over the tyre and as high up the back of the tyre as you can get, run the string along the length of the bike so that the string passes the front of the bike. Two points you need to ensure. Firstly make sure that string going round the rear wheel is not in the tread of the tyre, and secondly make sure that the string is not being fouled by an part of the bike. You then need to bring the string in or out until the string is just touching the front part of the rear tyre. Keeping the string taut all the time measure the distance between the string and the front tyre. Write down that measurement. Repeat all the above for the other side of the bike. A point to note is to try and keep the string at the same height level from the ground on both sides. Measure the distance between the other side and the string. Now the technical bit. If the left of the bike (as if you were sitting on it) is lets say 32cms and the right is 38cms that gives you a difference of 6cms. This would mean that your rear wheel is 3 cms from straight and pointing to the left. You would then need to either tighten the right hand adjuster to pull the wheel to the right, or loosen the left adjuster. This would depend on the slack or tightness of the chain. Please someone confirm I have just explained that correctly. My head hurts now. |

![]() The marker points on the swing arm arnt all that accurate, if you're worried take it to a garrage with a laser setup and get them to align the wheels.

![]() Should I get this sorted by a dealer before my 2 year warranty is up? Where did you take it, and how did they react to the warranty claim?
