Nice bike mate! God I love the older ninjas, the yellow one is sweet!! I'm seriously considering one of the older Kwak this coming spring, it had been a Z750 but I've gone off them (lack of fairing, slightly budget forks etc).

For me - coming from 2 years (which will equate to about 18k miles) on the SV, the J2 looks like the perfect step up as it's less lunatic than the current 600 razors - what do you guys think? Plus, I'm looking to travel round France next year - how does the riding position compare to the SV? The only other options would be a thundercat or CBR, neither of which excite me that much - sorry owners

I fancy the 636 version, can anyone confirm all the model numbers etc as it's not a simple as K1, 2, 3 and what to look out for.

The J1 and J2 were 600 cc and are identical. The first 636 was the A1(I think) and was very similar but with detail changes.Various colour changes between models. All are comfortable compared to the later "razors",and are available at good prices cos they aint that fashionable.Great bikes.Buy one ,you know you want to.

Is the insurance on older bikes much less? Say a 2001 sports 600 compared to a 2004 model?

I got a quote for an SV and a GSXR, both 2004 models on 3pft and the GSXR was 3 times as much - about £570 just for 3pft which seems rough when the bike isn't *that* much more dangerous than the SV... I'm guessing it's largely down to them being pinched more often... but would appreciate it if anyone could tell me if I could expect that to drop on an older model...

twotime
The SV is such a great all round bike, and perfect for commuting, Why don't you look for a ropey old cheap one for commuting, and keep your whizzy one for best?

I am thinking for "in the long run" about a two bike [and car] strategy. I have to have a car because I play rock organ and am in a band with some doleys who need lifts to practice, also I play in another band and have to take the huge keyboard with me there too. now I have carried musical instruments.. [digression event]
Right I have my naked SV for commuting and messing about in derbyshire and stuff. I would like a large engined four for trips to europe with the missus on the back. Because I am a big tall lad and I don't fancy 300km on the European A roads with a sore bum and no screen.

just money mate. the bank of twotime says I can only have one plus a cheap cage for when the missus wants to go out without having to brsh her hair again when we get there..... Plus I reckon I'd end up commuting on the ninja anyway cos I love it don't really get out of 2nd gear, but you can still have a lot of fun

Yep, I've got a nice bike and a cheap nasty one but tend to ride the nice one all the time because it's just soo much better than the other one even though it costs me a ridiculous amount to keep it in petrol
