Well I have not wandered around any exhibition and poked the new Kawasaki with the ugly stick nor have I sat on one. I have though seen one in black in the flesh on the road. Yes they are a bit funky looking but I actually think they are a very good bike.
The one I saw was with a pal on a Fazer 600 and they were both going pretty rapidly through some sweeping curvey stuff. No it does not offer what a mid weight V twin does...but there is probably much more to this bike than perhaps it is being given credit for.

I agree. The ER6 is probably a good bike which equals or matches the SV. However, it wins the Hayabusa prize for being an awful looking motorcycle. The GSX-F was disquailified for cheating. Ruins a perfectly good motorcycle. If it had come out much earlier, I would have considered one. Still prefer the looks of the SV though.

Designers must know whats nice and what ain't.

I also agree . Saw and sat on it at the show and liked what i saw . The riding position was good and it felt comfortable , everything layed out well . I think it is not a bad looking bike at all , certainly no stunner , but to me it looks fun and funky , and i applaud Kawasaki for coming up with something a bit different . In the looks department i like how they have mixed up the colours and also the frame , shocks etc . If there is a critisicm of the mighty SV , it is that they look very monotone , particularly the silver ones , silver frame , silver bodywork , silver everything which to me looks a bit boring . The Kwak has a lot more going on and i think it is a more interesting bike to look at . From what i've heard and talked to people who have ridden it , early impressions are good . It does everything you would expect , handles well , the engine is good with plenty torque and looks to well well built and finished . Whether it is serious competition for the mighty SV remains to be seen , and lets be honest here , a little healthy competition never did anyone any harm . Who knows it might make Suzuki get their finger out and come up with a improved SV for next year , which would be good for everyone .
