i hung a piece of butil rubber from the underneath of my battery box down in between the tyre and the swingarm, this costs pennies and DOES protect your shock! I wasnt keen on covering the back wheel with a hugger anyway i like to see it.

was looking into a similar thing today, cheap and effective. plus its out of sight.
 interesting whats been said about the sock shock (first impressions), not as practical as you expect then. plus it would be close to exhaust. are these socks heat retardent
