The good Capt. Nemo's bike fell off its side stand & mashed his lowers - the standard Suzuki bung just snapped off, doing absolutely nothing to save his fairing

Christ knows what'd happen if you came off at speed
I can tell you exactly what happens as I seem to be one of the privileged few who’s actually tested them out, lucky me.

Even though my slide was very low speed I found the mount basically snaps back into the frame at the weld, pulling the bung with it. This causes the bung to pull the fairing towards the frame, cracking the fairing in several places around the bung hole and causing the fairing to scratch the frame as well as the covers on the side of the engine , while the fairing hits the ground and gets scratched up too. The bar-end, exhaust, indicator and top fairing are then left to absorb the rest of the slide and hopefully bring the bike to a stop without even more damage.

I also have a crack on the fairing on the other side of my bike coming from where the LHS bung is mounted that appeared after 6 months of owning the bike , the dealer blamed my off even though that happened on the second day of owning the bike.

So I think I would have been better off without the Suzuki crash bungs as I probably would have ended up with less damage to my bike, the fairing would have probably still been scuffed but I certainly don’t think that the cracks would exist, and I think it’s all down to how the bungs are mounted.

I can see Chewy’s logic in making the bung shorter though, people who have not got the Suzuki bungs seem to come out better with just the silver disc on the fairing on the same mounts even at higher speeds, so it might work and if you’re skint then let’s not forget these are much cheaper than buying R&Gs. However, I think that even the Suzuki bungs would work fine with better mounts as mine was barely worn and so really it’s the mounts that need changing .

Chewwy the bungs look sweet.

unfortunately the problem with the suzuki bungs is the fact that they mounted to the fairng brackets which have the structural integrity of old kebab meat. they are cantilevered off the engine mount, and dont transfer the force directly to the frame or throught the bolt, the curvy bracket just ends up bending or snapping

mine fell of its stand and snapped the fairing bracket at the weld, suzukis answer to this was that the bung stopped any damage to the fairing so it worked, the fact that it snapped with very little force applied was of little interest to them. if it had been dropped at speed the snapped bracked would have caused the bung to push against the fairing and snap it.

the R+G's which i replaced the oem ones are amazing they look like you could smack em with a hammer and cause no damage.

chewwy if your bungs fit into teh recess in the fairng lower the they should be a direct repacement for the r+g ones as well, as long as the bolt is the same thread i suppose.

good work fella

Default crash bobbins

Chewy, I'm keen. I have an SV650S K5 with fairing lowers. I'd be interested in the fairing- and axle-bobbins. I have mirror extenders from you and they're very good.

Will these be anygood for my K3 "S" model...its totally standard apart from a Fuel exhaust.

I was first to put my name down for em' but now it looks as though they'll only be of benefit if you have fairing lowers.

Just figured that after riding 8 years the seasons through then my luck is bound to run out soon and I'll have a spill or drop her. You guys all seem to have some form of protection on yer bikes so thought I'd join ya.

Sorry to Chewy if I've messed you about...

P.S Anyone have medication for the following complaint.........turned into the frowned upon throttle blipper since the new exhaust

Same thing happened to Liz's K5 when it got dropped at low speed

The whole way the Suzuki bung mounts to the frame IMHO is utter sh*t, the bung itself held up well, however the bracket must be made of cheese...
