Talk for yourself....i loved every minute of each day on the 500cc though i did spread a 4 day course over 6 days and thats all the rest u need
I did 3 full days 9am-4pm all together and it was just right for me. I would have hated to spread out my days over a couple of weeks, i wanted them all together so i didn't have to spend the first hour of every day finding my feet again. Doing it all together meant everything flowed, if you have any choice try and get a test for late morning or early afternoon that way you have an hour or two to get yourself ready with your instructor, ironing out any last minute nerves before your test. Late afternoon and you may start to get lazy, tired or over confident. My instructor said thats what i was like late in the afternoon.

Hi Steve,

I'm currently in a similar position to yourself (Also a 30 something), so I will be interested to hear how you get on and where you end up training.

Yes the CBT is compulsory before the DAS test - watch out for the theory test with the hazard perceptions act like you've never been on the road before and you pass- I did it first time and was told afterwards that because I was an experienced driver I was picking up the hazards too early!!

The test is aimed at 17 year olds that have never been on the road and aren't very aware of surroundings ehilst driving/riding.

HTH and good luck

Hi Mate

I started riding when i was 30. Same reason, just thought it was something i always wanted to do and broke up with the missus and thought what the hell. I did a DAS course with ART in Royston and it was great. Did the 4 day course and passed first time. I haven't looked back really. Went out shortly after passing and bought an SV, now starting the IAM course to improve my riding some more and loving it. Even some idiot taking me out on the A1 hasn't put me off! Have a go and see if you like it.

Dan

p.s Have heard some mixed (mostly bad) about Camrider.

I'll add ART to my shortlist, Bit of a trek but it's mostly motorway so should be OK.

I was a little apprehensive about that Hazard perception bit too as I'd heard it was based on your reaction time but if you were too quick then you get nothing no online practice tests either.

Had a quick go on two practice theory tests last night. Failed both of em by one point but i wasn't too worried as it was all the bike bits about brakes and chains, 'Lifesaver' looks and one sign (the one with the bike jumping a car) that I got wrong. so I think I'll have a quick shufty at the online help and go do the Theory test next week.

Aaah, the old "caution stunt area ahead"

Although I'm sure that Rickman fairing makes it even harder to Jump the car

Cheers Mark.

I have a training program that is bike specific for the theory test and has a hazard perception part ( you can practice both to you hearts content - and it tells you which questions you are weakest at and lets you have more of them accordingly )

Worked for me last year

If you PM me your address i will pop it in the post for you if you want

Steve - I did exactly the same as you when I hit 30 6 years ago.

Started my DAS course at 12:00 Saturday morning - I was 10 minutes late as I was signing the paperwork for a brand new SV650.

Passed the test on Tuesday and picked up the bike on Saturday - I haven't stopped smiling since.

Good luck with your test mate
