I just know how much a bike can cost to convert from road into race spec, it is often cheaper to buy one that is already ‘sorted’. The pointy, (however profound or slight the differences/benefits) might have been available for a similar overall outlay?!?! Hence my question, nothing more implied.

As Robw#70 said, it’s only when you want to be at the sharp end of the pack that the equipment starts to become a bigger factor. And lets face it I have no idea ... the curvy might actually handle better than the pointy for all I know!?!? One thing I do know is that a well set up older generation bike on new tyres will ride better than a newer bike that isn't set up properly and on sh4gged tyres!!

Anyway, looks just the ticket, keep us informed of your exploits on it!!

will do!

was suddenly worries that a non-curvy was a better spec.. My knowledge of sv's is still quite basic..

The whole project came in under £1500 So not a bad effort methinks.. However still need some wets on wheels, spare levers, and assorted spares etc and to get it on the dyno

So about £2k all in, I doubt that you would have got a Pointy ‘package’ for that!?!?

And yes, I am presuming that a Pointy is better spec/base bike. I doubt the difference is cosmic mind (never even ridden a pointy myself let alone a race variant!!).

I guess a good indication is to look at the results and the bikes out there and see where the best placed curvy is.

I mean I have seen guys up-front that are riding unfiared ones for goodness sake, so I don't think the usual rules of physics apply when it comes to minigrins!!

Yup, like Rob says the pointies have hotter cams- though you can swap those. Personally I reckon for road use the SV FI is inferior to the SV carbs, at least with a minor amount of fettling, but I've got no race perspective so I'll leave that to the informed What's good for racers isn't always what's good for us, and vice versa.

Not being the sharp end of the big boys I couldn't comment, but I suspect those that are at the top are generally also those that have decent amounts of time/money to spend on tyres, practice sessions, dyno/suspension setup as well; and thus are more likely to also be spending more on the bikes.

Would love to see your bike, but the pics aren't there.
