They wouldn't, if it wasn't needed.

It is there, ergo, it is needed.

No, not "ergo", there is marketing in the way!
Well, maybe in the way needed to attract customers

I have a 2000 SV, no cooler, no heat problems, oil lasts for ever. I reckon its all marketing, if I had one on mine I'd probably dump it too, stupid place for a cooler anyway! SVs in general seem to run really cool. Mine never gets over 96degC. TLs are a roasty toasty motor! My R has the water based style heat exchanger which is a much better solution, evens out temps throughout the system too.
Worth remembering that removing the oil cooler and the restriction jet will increase the oil available to your engines moving parts as it no longer bypasses them through the cooler. If you live in a hotter climate adjust using heavier oil, but personally I want all my oil pressure doing important stuff!

Default don't touch it if you love your bike

My experience says that if you love you bike, please keep it. Why? If you run your gearbox on hot oil, it will occurs some pitting and sparking on the surface of your gear-teeth.

So if you want your bike for a long term don't do it, if you want it for shoort term and run on the red, do it so.

I run on spain and after a long ride, if feel some slip problems on the clutch, so if you don't want it, I will be happy if you send it to me... haha

love your bike, keep it

V'ss

Aye, but the point is the carbed model will do over a hundred thousand miles with no issues from hot oil, and the injected model is fundamentally the same bar the oil cooler...

Just realised something from another posting.
The later models don't have black engines casings so might run hotter by not radiating heat so well. Maybe the art department thought it would look nice in grey then the engineers found the oil in the casings was boiling so added a cooler!
Think if I had a grey motor I'd be tempted to change the colour, if you want and example of what a difference if can make try touching matt black headers after 30 seconds of switch of then touch chrome ones, very very carefully

Nice try But there's curvy models with a very similiar colour (if not the same)- K1 I think. I doubt the difference would be great, perhaps on an air-cooled motor but not on a liquid one.
