I was performing an overtake at the weekend and the oncoming car was flashing. My first thought was what a kno88er there's loads of room, I then noticed the passenger waving to slow down, at first I thought she must have thought I was some sort of riding god as she was using both arms and it looked like she was bowing!!! Anyhow it turns at the old bill were hidden behind a tree with their speed gun.

Just be careful not all those that are flashing you are pi55ed at you.

Ah, that might be the reason. Perhaps, and this is really reaching here, they are flashing to let you know that you can pull back in to the right side of the road.
Like lorrys do to each other on the motorway.

And don't talk to me about Ford Ka drivers not knowing how big their car is. There's one two doors down from me who is seriously the worst person at parking ever. She pretty much needs the whole side of the street clear and then still shuffles back and forth about ten times (I kid you not).

It has taken upto 15 minutes for her to park inbetween two cars - there was enough space to have fitted my Mini in twice - or even my 4x4 with ease!
I nearly go out there each afternoon to offer to park it for her - saves me listening to her infernal over-revving and appaling clutch control.

Sorry - dunno what came over me there! Dumb women who can't park their poxy little Ford KrAp. Shouldn't be allowed on the street...

Yeah, can't be that close if they have time to flash!

If it's women flashing at you, what are you complaining about?

I get a flash sometimes and would agree it's saying 'you're safe to pull in'.

I've had oncoming traffic flashing me too but i think it's because they see distances differently. Bikes can accellerate really quickly but they think 'OOOH that was a dangerous move' even tho there's no chance of hitting them.

I had a guy in a merc flash me last weekend. I'd been sitting behind him in the fast lane for ages, there was plenty of room for him to pull in as per the highway code and he wasn't doing 70. Traffic wasn't dictating his speed. So I undertook him leaving plenty of space should he have decided to pull over while I was doing the maneuver.

Fine, undertaking is wrong, but I did it safely to get by someone who shouldn't have been in the fast lane.

To me it was an indignant, holier than thou 'you shouldn't undertake' flash.

I believe alot of drivers suffer from this mentality.

Yeh, i too encounter this type all the time on my commute. Their bad lane discipline doesnt even cross their minds. they dont wonder why a bike undertook them. They just think that they saw us do something naughty and flash at us.

Its the vehicular wag of the finger i think.

so i wag this back Followed by a gesture to suggest they should move over a lane. And they flash again and stay in the lane they really dont need to be in.

I just assume a flash or beep means "oi, you just woke me up - I was daydreaming then!" - consider yourself as doing a public service.
