I like the fact that a modded bike stands out,i dont want to go to meet and see 30+ bikes like mine,if i did i'd of brought a gixxer in blue and white or a blade i want my bike to look like"my bike".

IMO, your weight is the issue you're going to have to address first.

Springs to suit your 18st and oil as recommended to suit is a must. You don't mention pillion but account for that too if reqd.

Rear shock, depends on how you want to split your budget. Branded is expensive but worth it if you plan on using the bike plenty, although don't discount Hagon who will build one to your spec for a little less than an Ohlins unit. Not sure if there is a cheaper GSXR/ZX/busa option for 18st.

I wouldn't go further than this 'til you get used to the bike properly. Get out there!!

Then evaluate if you want...
More grip - get some decent sports tyres
Better stopping power (plausable due to the weight again) - braided lines and pads. Discs on a K5 should still be fine.
Sounds and breathing - can/full system with remap and aftermarket filter
It's naked so perhaps a screen to hide behind and different bars for comfort.
Very rarely carry a pillion and if I do it's for very short distances, so that's not an issue.

I do use the bike plenty - I've put 14000km on it in my first year. It's my sole mode of transport. I don't feel any real discomfort driving it. I do 2 main longish trips on avergae 3 times a month - one is 160km and the other is 200km. Never arrive sore.

I do think my weight has to be factored in here. Bike is surely not designed for a guy as big as me. A rear shock so? Springs and oil? Going forward braided lines and pads maybe.

I am MORE i clined to spend money on things like the rear shock and springs etc at the moment. I love the bike and want it set up properly for me personally. A tail tidy at some stage definitely and a new can a must.

But like I said, making the bike to suit my body size is my first priority.

Would being on an SV1000 make much of a difference? They come in a naked version, right?

OH.....IS the difference between 'pointy' and 'curvy' simply wether it's the faired version or naked or is it something to do with the year it was rolled out? i.e could you have a curvy naked and a curvy full-faired?

I'm confused by this pointy curvy thing.....and what is mine? K5 SV650 naked.....

Basically, the old ones, before 2002, had curvy bodywork and frame, while the new ones, post 2002, are much pointier.

Pointy:

Curvy:

It's really jsut an easier way of saying "before 2003" and "after 2003".

My view is that with the 2nd hand price of my SV plus £2k, I could modify my bike into a GSX-R600 without much difficulty.

Yep, And both came faired (As shown above) and naked. Yours being K5 (2005) is a pointy. It's worth making the distinction between the 99-02 and 02-> bikes because they are different in several ways (including what bits fit, and what can be done).
