Have you actually ridden a B?

It's a focused bike so the suspension is stiff, but if you back the preload right off then the shock works quite nicely. On fast A-roads anyway, it wont like country lanes, but that's to be expected

Also bear in mind a brand new pre-reg with the full 2 years warranty can be had for £5000 these days so let that be reflected in the price of the used machine....

Cheers Toypop,
( oh abd thanks Scoobs )

They're asking £4600 for it, reg in may 05 ( underseat can model ), still has warranty, 1 owner from new, carbon hugger & race screen, factory immobiliser chipped key,. Looks like it's in great nick. Very tempted but the insurance has nearly doubled ( trebled in not kept in garage !! )

Yep, I have. And it's not a preload issue. The spring is too stiff, and the compression ranges are poorly specced. You can fudge it, as you and Scooby Drew have done, by nmessing with preload and with damping, but compare it with, for example, a Daytona 650 or the same year's GSXRs and you'll see how unimpressive it is. On a less good bike you'd acceptit. but the chassis is good and the front forks are pretty excellent, so putting something like that in the back was jus a mistake. It's fundamentally an inferior shock to the Showa used in the new model in every way.

S'pose. I don't really have a problem with it, but I guess it's a case of not knowing how much better something can be untill you try it.

That said, I've ridden an '04 GSX-R600, and I didn't think there was that much difference.

Mmm, I did But the Showas need dialing in right, they've got more adjustability which means they've got loads of wrong settings and still only one right one

I'm not saying it's a terrible shock, by the way, just rerear a bit and I got a wee bit carried away It's just the worst part of the B model's setup, by a fair way, and that's a shame. With the SV, the weak shock is balanced by the weak front end, but having a good chassis, good front end, and not so good rear is a waste IMO.

I'd rather pay £400 more for a brand new one with new tyres, new brakes, new clutch, new head bearings, new wheel bearings, new rear shock, new bulbs, new paint and new everything else that can wear out or go off. Plus 15 months more warranty on it, totally unmolested and not abused in anyway with a full three years before it needs a MOT.

In fact I'd probably still rather buy it new than say pay £4000 for a used one. The owner probably paid £7000 so wouldn't be happy about that but that is the price you pay when you buy new bikes whilst they are still in demand.
