Apart from the cats,I changed the oil and filter on my Kwak ZX9R today and it took more than the manual said it should to get the level to just below the upper line in the sight glass.I think they assume you don't get all the old oil out,but I rock the bike about a bit and turn it on the starter motor to expel the last dregs so maybe that accounts for some of the variation?BTW I had bought one of those strap thingies to get the filter off which broke instantly,so I still had to bash a screwdriver through the filter to get it off!

I had a special filter socket for my BMW K75s made of ally so I'm looking for one each for the bike and car. Can only find a boxed set containing about 6 different sizes. So for the time being I use the good old chain wrench.
By the way I do exactly as you do with the starter to get the old oil out so you are most likely right in your assumption.

You can buy a big socket that fits the oil filter. Got mine from a Suzy dealer but I believe that Hein Gerike sell one too. About 4 quid IIRC. Well worth it.

Yes, but it probably won't fit filters on other makes. That's why I like the claw type, it should work for pretty much all oil filters.

Agreed Cadsick, I have 3 different size oil wrenches. The claw type does make more sense if you're gonna be working on different makes.

Thats the good thing about Suzukis. One oil filter pretty much fits all models.

I just use my hands, Don't see the need for a special tool.

Ok...ye may feel free to laugh at me here...I can take it...

When I got my first bike (nigh on 2 year ago) it was a ickle CBR 250 MC19. I am a big boy and seriously made this thing look like a minimoto!!

Anyhoo...I was changing the oil...not completely knowing exactly what I was doing...and because it wasn't overflowing or anything I figured it wanted more...and more...and more...until I'd put 4 litres of fresh oil into it...

The white smoke trailing behind me gave it away slightly...
