jdubya...I think you might be getting caught up in the old romanticism that Gypsy Travellers were once thought of. There are many people out there who are total scumbags and have nothing to do with true travellers.

The example used indicates nothing more than "thieving scum" in my mind. No matter what back ground they might come from.

With your theory where would the line ever be drawn? Or more importantly what would be left for people to ever discuss? There are far better causes worthy of your sympathy mate.

Yes, they are thievin' scum but it is still no reason to use derogatory terms to describe these people on a public forum.

It was nothing more than a little humour, The article itself didn't mention any racial characteristic at all, and I simply used the term "pikey" to elicit a smile, not meaning to allude to any particular race or racial characteristic. And anyway, how do you know they were scum? Isn't that, in itself, "derogatory" and presumptive?

The human rights campaigners would have been all over us by now if this was posted on the bbc/itv/sky broadcasting networks. So I dont see why the mods should tolerate it on this forum...

Just make sure when you get stopped, you don't hit a police car with the Porsche. One, it's a shame to dent a nice cage (porsche, not police car) and two, that's an instant charge of assulting an officer with a deadly weapon. I can't think why, but they have a bit of a problem with folks doing that (More so than my gran doing 33mph in a 30 zone).
