I want this one

Canon IXUS 800 IS

Is the image stabiliser property actually useful? Is there another camera better for roughly the same price?

£266.00 from Amazon which was a lot cheaper than what I saw in Jessops.

Like its been said, the reviews can just baffle you. Ive been looking around and one mans dream camera is anothers nightmare. Ive looked at the Fuji s5600 which can be had for under £170, the Panasonic FZ7, Sony DSC H2 etc. Confusing to say the least

From your list, the Panasonic would be the clincher for me.

Beenz is that due to the Leica lens? The downside with the Pan is that it doesnt take AA batts

I read the Amateur Photographer regularly amongst others and the Panasonics although not always winning comparative reviews they tend to be consistently in the higher score area. The Leica (designed) lens is made by Panasonic under licence, it is not really a Lieca Germany optic (hand built to very tight tollerances and silly prices). The lens on is own would pop the price up by a grand or two if it was.

From memory, the Fuji has some odd usability quirks and to be honest the Sony does not cut it in this company IIRC.

For info Sony sometimes have Zeiss lenses, again made under licence.

I'll try and find out a bit more info.
