Numbers, that is bloody awful... Thefts from hospitals are pretty common, they're an easy target since there's visitors etc coming and going all day. The people that'd sink to that are the lowest of the low Some of it's probably staff, some just random folk, some other patients. When my mate was in after his big crash, he got a watch stolen while he was sedated - it later turned up in the drawer of the person in the next bed

Hovi5, most ID theft is done by UK citizens for financial fraud purposes, a stolen birth certificate's pretty worthless for immigration fraud... But don't let that stop your daily mail rant.

Alex

I am glad your mums stuff was exactly where it was suppossed to be. My wife works in a hospital and she has told me of the little old ladies that come in with a couple of grand in their handbags and how the staff have to plead with them to allow it to be put in the safe.

The staff should have told your mum where her valuables were as soon as she was in a position to take it in. Failing that a member of the family should have been told.

However, I would guess that the ward was far too busy for the ammount of staff deployed and it was a simple oversight.

I am glad things worked out (eventually)

Glad it's all ended well mate.

The hospital aren't sure if they can post it out? WTF!??!?!

They made a mistake, fair enough. Only fair that they fix the mistake they made!

If I were in that situation, I'd make it VERY clear to the ward sister on duty that if the items aren't returned to your mum's address quickly, you'll be writing a letter of complaint to the board of governors at the hospital. Also make it plain that if this doesn't have the desired effect, your next letter will be CC'd to multiple editors of multiple newspapers, locally and nationally, just so the general public learns about the c*ck up!

It might not solve it, but it'll at least get them to think about it carefully.

So no guilty thieving illegal emigrant/ Muslims etc? Also saves sawing off someone’s bollox which is a bonus. Glad to hear all is OK now.

I can actually see why they are unsure about the postage situation - Royal Mail is far from the secureist of services at times - and that's a golden goodie bag of ID's for a potential thief.

Perhaps it would be safest to suggest to them that each item is posted individually, and each going by Recorded mail at the very least - preferabley Special delivery.

At least you've both got the peace of mind that there was no nasty shennanigans at the hospital - 'just' an oversight.
Appologies are good, but don't really make up for the higher potential on an over worked ward for something like this to happen again.

Still, I'd rather have the NHS in the state it is than be completely without it.

It would have been nice for the person in the next bed could have woken up to find their drip switched for a urine bag.
