Like the others have said.......a Honda of some sort.

Depends how far you are planning to travel in one hit.

I can see the advantage in something shaft-driven but if you're not planning on long distances then I'd suggest a CB-1 or 400-4. Both well-built and reliable.

Or an NTV......... I think if it were my money I'd try for one of these. Always popular and easy to sell-on in the spring.

The Suzuki Freewind looks like a Aprilia Pegaso. I wouldnt think you could trail on that.

The MZ looks great! - Cant imagine that going cheap?

I think ill stick with the car, sell it and possibly get something for a cheap runaround and get a 2nd bike anyway. I just have to persuade my girlfriend that i can afford it!

£1500 eh?

Probably an er5 (£750), aftermarket full fairing (£300), heated grips, scottoiler, fs365, handlebar muffs, rack, topbox and the rest on the upkeep. For a winter hack who cares what it looks like. I'd try and get the BIGGEST aftermarket fairing for the er5 for complete wind protection.

Some off the traillie bikes aren't holding they're value now as alot off people are getting rid due to not being able to ride on the green lanes.

I use a DRZ 400 , formerly a DR350, which is still in the garage as reserve, or for sale maybe.

Those aren't road legal here I hear Don't know why. I'm sure there's an equivalent though.
