These are all tragedies. Every single one.

The A483 - a scary road - fast straights with very tight corners - I like the road but not on summer weekends, it's too dangerous - severe hazard of oncoming overcooking corners and crossing the road, as happened in this case.

Well there you go another ill informed supposed proffesional waxing lyrical about things he probably has no training or expertise. SO if I read his comments right is ihe saying that if they were travelling at 59mph he would be perfectly safe!!! I didnt realise you bounced off cars in a totally safe manner at anything below 60mph!!

IMHO speed defines how bad your accident is, it does not always cause the accident in the first place. I wish people who should know better wouldnt hang there hat on speed all the time.

Ive binned my bike in a corner before. Was it due to speed no (wasnt breaking speed limit). Was it due to a lack of skill and poor observation yes!! did I learn from it yes! Do I ride faaster than 60 ?? ---->

I completely understand why people choose to wear a darkened visor, but I do strongly question what proportion of riders who write off legal tint visors as ineffective have actually tried using one.
I have, it was ****. I wore it once on my commute then sold it, for dealing with low sun conditions it just wasn't up to the task. The one on my Arai is illegally dark, not the darkest I've come across but it does the job I need it to do, which inserts and legal tints can't. I ignore laws that make it impossible to ride safely, and so did every traffic cop I've ever spoken to about it. And I carry a clear one for night riding, since I'm not a halfwit

It's the same guy who made the claims about an epidemic of road racers, isn't it? Case closed. What's a shame is that there really is a problem here, it sounds like, but instead of doing something that could help reduce that problem, and that people might actually pay any heed to, he's put out an imbalanced rant that most people will immediately ignore, and chuck out the baby with the bathwater. The right thing to do, surely is say "FFS guys, stop riding like knobs. Also, perhaps we should have specific warnings with max speeds on those corners to stop it happening again"

I saw this story elsewhere... Guardian Online maybe? Or the Telegraph most likely... and it stated that at the time of the accident David Bentley was well within the speed limit, the speed was estimated at 45. The statements reflect speeds earlier in the ride.
