I was fortunate to get a 2 bed with garage and landscaping for £500 under the SD threshold just as it went up. Just waiting for the collapse of the economy now to be crippled under the strain of my mortgage

Try paying 40% tax twice . And then getting a penalty fine for unpaid repayments because they hadn't sorted it out.

It took over a year to get them to put it straight, but I now have in my posession a very apologetic letter from the Inland Revenue saying they will never, ever bother me again (I've framed it and hung it over the lav). I'm not moving, having any more kids, getting married or divorce, changing jobs or doing anything that in any way upsets my tax code again just in case the halfwits mess it all up again.

well someone voted for the robbing bar stewards, three times over. Any one who ever thought of Labour as a low tax party should be committed. Read this for a little insight on Gordy and Tony's tax record link
UK taxes are relatively high as a percentage of GDP at 39.2%, about 3% higher then when labour came to power. another link
