gettin2dizzy. Sounds like you have the usual fault. Controller packed up due to weather. Test the voltage coming out the controller, and you SHOULD get 12v to each grip. I'm betting it's 6v or less, which doesn't cut the mustard.

Tomcat, yours is wired EXACTLY the same as mine is (except mine goes to a bolt through the frame for ground). *pulls up his wiring diagram*

Front indicators share the same ground as headlights, and the dash panel. Rear indicators & brake lights ground pretty much straight to the battery, but also join the starter circuit. Right headlight takes the main ground back to the brakes.

The problem occurs when brake lights AND indicators are on, and ONLY in this situation? (ie, not when ONLY brakes are on, also not when ONLY indicating.) Strange.

I can't see anywhere that would obviously cause that to happen in the wiring diagram. The only thing I can think of is the connection to the battery, but I doubt it'd be that either.

TBH it does sound like the issue would be with the bike not the controller... If it was me, I'd fit it with a relay off of the sidelights and see if the same thing happens there, I reckon it won't. Though I don't know why it's happening now, if you've had 2 boxes and the same problem both times it implies there's some oddity in your bike not the controller.

I found Oxford's customer service to be basically above and beyond when my immobiliser died. It was about 5 years old, I'd no receipts, and it came fitted to the bike when I got it. The touchpad and LED stopped working- almost certainly after taking damage rather than through a defect. Spoke to Oxford custoemr services, who weren't too helpful but put me onto an engineer, who passed the bits to one of their sales reps, who delivered it to my house about 2 days later That doesn't seem to be strictly representative of the company, mind, but it can happen.

If there is a relay involved, the turning on of indicators etc might cause the switching voltage to drop below the switching threshhold, and hence allow the relay to drop out.

i get voltage before the controller regardless of whats running, the control box light has never switched on- which rules out weather. Am i right in thinking the button should 'click'?
cheers

Try a sharp stab instead of a press... my recently new HotGrips controller sometimes need a quick hard push rather than a normal button-press action.

Worth a try

mine arrived like that. i.e. no red light on the control box... i tihnk id got mine from busters and couldnt be ar$ed with taking them off posting them back etc.

Check theres power going into the box, using a test lamp or a mulitmeter for the hi tech approach and then see if any power is coming out of the controlbox to the grips. (you can test inside the multipin connector that goes to each grip.

in the end i bypassed the control box on mine. as i found (on previous bike, i either needed it on or off... and never warm). and connected a fused ignition live feed direct to the grips plugged them in in oct / nov, and unplugged them in the spring... i think there was one freak hot day, when i wish i could have turned them off and couldnt easily and likewise one freak cold day when i wished i could easily turn them on and couldnt.

Yeah. The button might be ****ed. If there's power coming in, and none coming out, then the box is the prob.

Yep, though I fitted a switch and light into it too. Easily enough done. But I sometimes wonder if mine actually work properly, after hearing stories of burny heat- mine are warm but never really hot. They're lookign a little shabby so I might fit a new set next year.

To everyone asking why they've not fixed the box- they have, as Hovi5 found out

still not heard form oxford or hotbikebits.com. Oxford refuse to deal with the public over the phone. To add insult to injury the oxford panniers i used once(!) newcaste to manchester (which the raincover ripped open on both, and filled with water- holding it in so the paniers were submerged ruining everything i got for christmas) i've just noticed that even though they were on properly the protective pad wasn't sufficient. Its taken paint off both sides to the bare plastic! bummer. Anyone recommend anyway of respraying this?
not a good week to give up smoking! :P hehe (ive got uni finals too!)
