If I remember correctly (and I could be talking complete testicles) the Almax chains don't react to freezing because they're made from two metals (one inside the other) which stops the 2nd one from becoming brittle.

My boy has an Almax chain on his scoot, bloody great thing but it goes under his seat when he's riding. They had 3 other scooters nicked at his college one afternoon, his was the only one they didn't take. All of the others got cropped, picked up and put in a van. I'm pretty sure they just gave up with his, so it does exeactly what it says on the packet

So you telling me the only way through one of these things is an angle grinder or Oxyacetylene ... if so then that is cool

So the weakpoint is the lock ... do they make a lock to match that is practically unbreakable too??

Pretty much so - Apparently and angle grinder would get through, though I have been told that you would likely break a blade or two doing it! Not sure about Oxyacetylene - but as mentioned before it did survive this:

Never seen the same tests done on the lock, but the thing is pretty beefy. You should give Almax a call if you are curious, they are very friendly people and will chat for a long time about their stuff - Not in a hard sell sort of way - just that they geniunely believe in what they do! Nice people.

I imagine trying to grind through such a chain would make a hell of a lot of noise and sparks, not what your average 3am in your driveway theif wants

And LOL at the Thermite Idea, nice extreme but you'd have bugger all left of the rear end of the bike and a Thermite blaze will set of any fence or plant life in a pretty nice radius around the fire so not very subtle....

£60 might get you a 1m chain with no lock but very litlle else. the almaxs are expensive but ulitmately worth it. budget £120 for a chain and ss65c lock
I just had a look on the website, i'll shell out the money for one of these locks I think. I'm not sure which length to go for, but I think 1.5m is long enough.

Is the website safe to order from?

Matt

Good job his missus didn't have anything out on the washing line!! Oxyacetylene is a lot more focused heat than that ...

Quite, that is why they would have to attack the lock as the chain is impractical to attack (unless you have Oxyacetylene) by the looks

All that fire and sparks didn't really seem to do much to the plastic milk crate either though

You can break them with bolt cutters, but they have to be the pneumatic commercial jobbies...

And Northy, as he's still running it in after blowing it up, I guess he doesn't notice it
