Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my headlights, after using the search, found many threads on the subject (including this one) A point that comes up regulaly is not to get too high a wattage, as I understand it the curvey headlight bulbs are 45/45w? I was looking at H4 12V 60/55W Philips Vision plus bulbs, does anyone know if these bulbs will be ok as the wattage is slightly higher

Thanks, Gaz

P.s; is it normal for the headlights to dull ever so slightly when i use my brake lights?

This could be perfectly normal. I presume that you're checking this phenomenon while the bike's idling or off i.e. the alternators not putting out full charge. The extra loading of the brake lights could be enough to fractionally drop the effective voltage across the battery. The effect is made worse if using higher power bulbs with standard wiring (that is generally not fantastic on bikes, and some Suzuki's have a poor reputation on this aspect) due to increased volt drop in the wires. Try blipping the throttle and see if it makes a difference.

Being more pessemistic, it could also be symptomatic of the battery beginning to fail. All batteries have an internal resistance, which is why the terminal voltage changes with current. As the battery deteriorates, the plates in the battery begin to suplhate causing this internal resistance to increase, so the effect is magnified. Try to keep the battery charged using an Optimate, or similar, if you don't use the bike that often, and just keep an eye on it. If you're not seeing other electrical issues then it's probably not worth worrying about.

Yes they will fit, no you dont have to remove anything. They are fidly, but you can do them with everything in place.

I bought some of the Philips xtreme bulbs, and to be honest didnt notice ANY difference over the silverstars that i had fitted. However, i did notice a difference over the silverstars in the car?? Better reflector id expect, thats where they stayed.

Thanks Ruffy,

I think they've always done it & I've had the bike just over a year so I don't 'spose there's anything to worry about, & I dont seem to be having any problems with the vision plus that i put in.

dyziowg, they aren't difficult to fit, just a bit fiddly, it explains how in the Haynes manual. I found it easier to get to by moving the handlebars around a bit & also to have one hand going in over the top of the fairing & one hand coming up & underneath the fairing, (I hope this makes a bit more sense than I've managed to make it sound.)
