Yep, I guess the US don't like Iran so now we have to bomb the sh*t out of that country. America is looking more and more like a dictatorship these days.

Consider this. Should Tony decide to wholeheartedly agree with George Dubyah about kicking off in Iran, Iran now have some leverage here against the UK.

Iran knows Georgie boy is spoiling for a war with them so theyre upping the ante to make sure we at least know theyre going to make it hard for us, harder than Iraq or Afghanistan has been. Theyve been doing things to prove that point for the last few months which has generally gone unreported in the press, or the significance is now starting to dawn on people.

As mentioned, the border in these waters is disputed and Iran is going to use this to extend their territory if they can given what they see as a weak Iraqi government. I would say thats one of the reasons for this tbh.

Iran is also coming under increasing pressure internationally with UN resolutions regarding their nuclear program, so they now have a bargaining chip against that.

I believe this will be resolved peacefully with the high level negotiations that are going on. Just a question of which other Arab nation needs the international boost for being the "man in the middle". Syria, Jordan or Lebanon?

Oh Baph, its 30 years for release to public records office, not 50. Unless the PRO/FCO decide the material is still highly sensitive and then it will remain classified indefinitely.

War with Iran would be a HUGE mistake.

I don't think anything looks good out there when it comes to this sort of business (war). I imagine that as soon as a threat is realised, somebody somewhere is working to develop something that will minimise or eliminate that threat.

'Tis interesting how Tony has said that 'we may move into a new phase' and then the media announce that Cobra have had a meeting. I wonder if the announcement itself is part of the 'heavying up'.

Fingers crossed for those peeps.

Fingers crossed for us all, war with Iran and their anti-ship capability would mean they could stop the flow of oil out of the middle east. Oil price shoots up very little supply, world economy takes a huge hit...

Just watching news now and Tony is sabre rattling

Yes but the moving into a new phase will only involve releasing some paperwork and have no weight to it. He's trying to "talk the talk" but what he says never seems to have the weight to it needed.

If you read some quotes from Ahmadinejad, he says some worrying stuff about his outlook on western policies. Then ol' Tone comes back with maybe perhaps writing a nasty letter which seems the top and bottom of it

I once read a book called"The crash of '89" or something like that.It was written in the 1970s and the personalities are all out of date now but the politics remains similar. It ended in a nuclear war in the middle east and the world coming to a grinding halt due to no oil-------?

I'm glad they are being freed, but I won't be completly satisfied until they are back onboard a british vessel.

How could they have got captured in the first damn place?!
