i have had a little scare when i first got my bike but i am now use to it a slipper clutch is to prevent that isn't it? but i think they are about $800 dollars

As mentioned here, blip the throttle and slowly feather the clutch and you'll be fine.

I do it every now and then and it's kinda fun (usually when I drop into first when I think I'm going into second)!!!!

When I first got on the SV in Feb it was on the stock Dunlop rubber and it was a little un-nerving when the rear stepped out as it didn't feel very stable, now with my new Metzler Z6's it feels alot more stable, even when the engine braking catches me out!!!!

Ditch the Dunlops if your still on em and get yourself some decent rubber!

Dunlop makes some very good tire but the D220 that comes on the sv is terrible i recommend ditching them too.
