Default Re: Bike started on one cylinder only?

the petrol ont he sv is vacuum fed, not gravity fed like other bikes, eg a banit. they have a fuel tap, where we dont, because the bandits are gravity fed. the vacuum of the engine sucks the fuel in. if it isnt sucking the fuel in, you basicly are not getting the right amount of fuel in, hence why it is very intermitent and backfires. (i think, anyone please correct me if i am wrong but it sounds about right)

there should be a hose going from the bottom of the fuel feed on the inderside of the tank, and then heading to the rear left of the rear cylinder.

only a guess though, it could be something completely different.

I found the battery earth lead was loose. I tightened it and charged the battery and it started instantly and ran evenly this morning! Hopefully that will be the end of it. I'm going to strip and clean the carbs anyway which should be the end of the erratic running I hope!

Weird that a loose earth lead gave no symptoms at all. The alarm didn't play up or the rev counter go weird and even the lights all worked ok and weren't dim or anything?
