I'm actually more of a dog person....figured a cat would be less high maitenance, what with living in London & never being in the house.

We find they lose their collar about ten minutes after spending yet another fiver getting yet another name tag engraved, gave up in the end and got them chipped - about £20 down the vets. Still stick a collar on them so they don't look like strays mind. Or staple the collar on, that might work
