There's an obvious answer right under your nose, the DL650. They will offroad* well
*lanes. tracks and trails, not REAL offroad, singletrack where a dirtbike is what you want, or an 950SE if your a nut ![]() Or things like XT660s etc. |

There's a big scene for proper dirt bikes. For you and for me mid-wales and yorkshire/peaks would be the places. Look at the TRF website.
Yes, theres hassle with lanes being closed but there's still places to ride. I don't really know much about it though as big traillie riding is somewhat different as mainly you are looking for big tracks and trails, probably quite/too easy for a dirtbike. In some ways old roads which just are dirt rather than tarmac. |
