The UK is a push over, it really ****es me off so much!!!

I have never had a problem with people moving around Great Britain north or south as long as someone's not a **** then i'll generally get on with people. I don't understand racist abuse, its out of line and uncalled for... got accused of it at school "you don't like me cuz i'm Asian" i said " no Juned i don't like you cuz you're a ****". Same goes for white people too but i don't have all day to list them.

This thread is just so depressing All these myths being peddled around, breeding xenophobia I really thought the world had moved on.

Any one of you who has posted about how the benefit system is so open to abuse - prove it. Give me a specific example.

I bet you can't.

Me, my mother comes from Ireland, one of the countries mentioned above. I'm very proud of my Irish roots. Father came from the Isle of Sheppey but that's not desperately relevant. Mother arrived here in 1942, trained to be a nurse in Lewisham Hospital at a time when England was glad of the help, and apart from a short break to have kids (me included) she has always worked, up to age 74 in fact.

My guess is that like her, most immigrants do not abuse the system. Of course there will always be a handful of cases but my overwhelming feeling is that immigrants contribute rather than take. In so many ways, not just economic.

But headlines like 'Immigrant Scroungers' sell copy, don't they?

Ed, If you lived in some of the area's that have a large porportion of eastern europeans in it youd find that yes they are willing to work but they work for a lot less than the local people so take jobs from local population. They live in the most squalid conditions and send home as much as they can. With the strength of the pound every one they send home is worth more to their families at home than it is to them here so you have a catch 22 situation. they will keep coming to work for what we would call very low wages but will make their families better off but will stir up hate from the locals who cant find decent paid jobs because they're being undercut all the time.
I personally dont care as long as the migrants are willing to work and pay into the system. But a lot of home born of migrants (and a lot of English people) now know the system and use it to their own advantage.
And to admit to have someone in your family from the isle of sheppy
They say a virgin there is a girl who can run faster than her brothers nand uncles
