yeah defo looks like the sub frame from the pic, but it could be the numberplate bracket or something to do with that even if it is that still suggests a drop

this may seem a bit daft but I want as ammo for when I go in tomorrow - I want to take some pictures of sv's back ends in to the shop to show them the difference between my bike and one with a straight back end - I just know they're gonna give it the old ' thats what its supposed to be like' - I did go in 2 weeks ago complaining that the steering seemed off and they just said 'oh its cos youre used to riding a different sort of bike-what sort of bike did you have? uh....another sv650 mate.....silence!"!

If anyone has any pics of their back end (SV's) the same as mine on the 1st page of the thread I'd really appreciate you posting it or pm'ing me so I can show them as a comparison??

Cheers all

Here you go mate. The pic isn't perfectly straight, probably the angle i was stood at or the plate isn't perfectly straight, but yours does look a lot further out to one side by comparison.

Right.......just got back from the dealers and the outcome apparently was that the 'seat unit' was off centre - they were lookin at it for a while and looked like they were stumped - i sat down for about 45 mins and then the chief mech comes up and says 'all done' - it was the seat unit that was taking it out - we've done a string test and it appears to be fine now (they did a string test when it 1st came in before they found the seat unit issue). So the 1st test shows out of line but the 2nd comes up fine? as far as what he told me he hasnt adjust the wheel alignment of the swingarm so how could the test be any different now?(I didnt think of this till I got home with the bike). Anyway the back end def looked straighter when I was at the shop but by the time I got home and went over quite a few speed bumps I looked at it again and I dont know if its just me being paranoid but it looks off again. I took some more pics ...see what you think?? Oh and I put my stock can back on just to make sure its not the can pushin out that makes it look sqewif..

PLS ignore the crooked paddock stand!!

1st pic looks like you were stood slightly to the left of the bike so it could be the perspective of the pic (look at the mirrors, you'll see what i mean). As the 2nd pic is closer there aren't as many reference points to check so it could be exaggerating the effect, but it does still look a bit off-centre.

If they've tested the alignment in front of you though at the dealer though then I would have thought that it would be pretty accurate, but then I'm quite mechanically ignorant.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly who knows their stuff...

Thanks for looking mate - I see what you mean by the perspective of the 1st pic - I may just be being paranoid now but the feel of the bike DOES feel completely different and somewhat strange - I did initially go back to the dealer 2 weeks ago cos I felt that the handlebars were off being it felt like the bike was steering to the right but they proved no prob with the bars at that point, I can only presume the steering issue is related to the back end?

Oh well.......I'm gonna give her a good thrashin tonight and see how it feels!!

Draw a straight line on the floor to take a straight picture of the back and position the camera on that line as well for less distortion.

I aligned the front/back wheel by using two pieces of aluminum lengths tied one on each side of the rear wheel running to the front wheel. These were off the ground by using two shoe boxes at each end. The bike used to steer badly before I aligned the back to the front. Better now. Also looked similar to your pics before.

Thanks for the tip mate - I'll try your suggestion but if I find the alignment I'll be speaking to the dealers again!
