True, but I was referring in isolation to the 'tape over the switch' post, which didn't reference the electric start switch post.

Have helped bump a TL1000S. But it's not exactly light work, or an easy one man job....

I helped bumpstart one of those enormous harleys once, road king is it? There were 4 of us and we took turns I don't even try with the SV any more, unless it's on a hill, if I ever managed it while pushing I'd probably bin it anyway... Used to be able to do my 125 in about 3 feet of road from cold, that was good.

one man can manage.... though he did also use the starter button (as he doesn't have one of those clutch switch things)

wasn't there though or I'd have given him a push.....

I've not attempted the SV - would probably drop it.... used to get the 400 going with boring regularity though if the battery wasn't too flat or the road too wet

Yorkie 'man' step down off the uni' soap box for a moment and try some laymans English. The bike won't start once the clutch is let out, it has to be in for it to allow starting. You try to bump start by letting the clutch out, as soon as you do this it will not allow starting. Now listen carefully...tape up, glue, nail, bolt, tie with piece of string, rubber band, whatever it takes to prevent the "actuator" from knowing?, that the clutch has been let out. If it thinks?, the clutch is still pulled in it will allow starting even though the clutch has been let out to enable the bump start!

This is not nessasary the clutch lever inhibitor switch only stops the starter operating so if you are bump starting it the starter doesnt come into it, its only if you are jump starting the bike that you need to pull the clutch in for, if you are geting some one to bump start it ignition on get some speed up 2nd gear and dump the clutch if the back wheel doesnt lock up then if should start.

It could help, but if the batterys hardly even got enough juice to fire the spark, then trying to draw starting current is going to do more harm than good IMO

I do see where you're coming from with the trying to give it an extra shove idea, but as for getting off my uni soapbox, get forked, I like it up here.

The battery is assumed good and the inhibitor only stops the starter....so whats the problem again??? Once the alternator is spinning it should give enough spark to fire surely?? The battery is only for lights & starter! Or does the electronic ignition have some kind of stupid cut-off where if the voltage is low it refuses to work??

If the battery was assumed good, why would you be bump starting?

The starter takes a lot of current, which will cause voltage drop on the battery (notice how lights go dim when cranking) and this will result in a weak spark.
The alternator doesn't give out much at cranking speed.
