I love the VFR and will probably have another when I can't be bothered with the pain of riding a SS600 anymore.

EDIT: With race cans on it sounds like a NASCAR...........what are you waiting for!?
Sorry..... Only an opinion. I was the pillion for two days and I'M saying that it felt a little jerky when the V-TEC occured! So in MY OPINION i'd have the non V-TEC one.

Sorry back in my box now.

Like going round corners it would occasionally kick in and unsettle it a little. So you had to spend a lot more time chooing the correct gear than with a normal bike. Which for touring sort of defeats the object for me.
But for a sunday blast as you say, keep it above 7K and it is a fantasic bit of kit.
Hmmmmm never had a problem, even on first gear hairpins. Choosing the right gear is not a problem even if touring. Very occassionally there is a slight jerk when the VTEC comes in. But if it is a problem on an individual bike, then the valves and injection are not quite in synch, which can cause the engine to briefly bog at 7k - fixed by getting everything synchronised. The same can be said of the alledged jerky throttle at low revs, it needs the starter valves properly sequenced to resolve. Good servicing is essential on this bike, so it is not a cheap one to run.

Hehe, I did sound a little on my soapbox too! Wasn't meant to, mine is also just an opinion. I found the VTEC to be smooth, it was more like a rush of torque than jerky. Anyway, damn fine bikes. Again, in my opinion.

SV1000S - Yes, I am biased on that one
ZX6R - J1/J2/A1P models. They are nice and really comfortable, so much I'd consider them a sport tourer.
Yamaha Thundercat - Nice all rounder I'm told
Triumph TT-600 - A lot of bike for not a lot of money. I believe the daytona 600 & 650 have the same riding position, but I never sat or ridden one of those.

So many bikes, so little money

Don't think a Daytona is particularly suitable for a passenger. I certainly wouldn't like to be perched on the back of mine. There's nothing to hold onto, and the seat is too small. The riding position however is at the less extreme end though, and I can see more than just my elbows in the mirrors.

I like Multistradas, mate Karl has one - it's a terrific bike once you get used to the bag of spanners sound.

Hey, I still reckon I'll end up on a Honda, the experience has been too good to just let go. And I know that for weeks & weeks I'll pine for the 'Blade... In fact I'm thinking of going without a bike for a few months so that I can't compare whatever I get back to back with it....

As some of you know, when I bought the 'Blade I'd actually been for a test on the VFR and was going to buy a new one.... Until I saw that beautiful red machine sitting in the window, and had a change of heart. It was 2 years old with only 3k on the clock, and this is by far the longest I have kept any bike. If I was still riding as much as I was before I probably wouldn't change either. I've had just over 2 years and added another 15k in that time, half the mileage I was doing 2 years ago....

However, I've made the decision, and the bike is in the garage, stripped of it's fairings, waiting for a serious clean. I've just replaced the headstock bearings, put on a new chain & sprockets (dropped a tooth on the front too), and had a major service. I need to replace the rear tyre, two hours of 120mph to reach the ferry in time took it's toll on the rubber, and then I'll return it to stock.

Again, I've stripped down to make sure I don't ride it for a while, my next 3 weekends are already taken up, and I'm taking the car to Magny Cours for the final WSB race of the season...

It should be ready for sale by the end of the month, and I'll look at getting something in January.
