And no, Steve Vai learned how to play the guitar with Joe Satriani, Zappa only taught him some more important stuff... anyone can w@nk around the fretboard at the speed of light (practice, practice, practice and then some more practice), but to actually do it in a coherent and interesting manner is a completely different ball game.

thanks for that...I knew he'd done soomat important for him..Mr.Vai is not quite my cup of tea cause he's a tad showoff, Somewhere I've got an old vid of him when he was younger playing with Zappa, must have been rather early on

i rekon micheal angelo is better at showing off have a look for him he's got poodle hair and plays a v twin guitar with both hands fretting

That's the problem, I like music too, not just the fretboard onanisms. And that's where Vai cuts it for me.
