Idle Banter For non SV and non bike related chat (and the odd bit of humour - but if any post isn't suitable it'll get deleted real quick).
There's also a "U" rating so please respect this. Newbies can also say "hello" here too.

Apparently this is very well documented that zone alarm is providing feedback to checkpoint. There is supposed to be an easy fix to stop this by making an entry within your host file of:

127.0.0.1 zonelabs.com

This should then point resolution for zonelabs back to the PC itself.

Personally I don't run any firewall on my widows boxes as they sit behind my hardware firewalls and don't have any incoming internet services. Even though my linux boxes sit behind the firewalls as well I then use iptables to further tie the down as well as running armour scripts and turning off all unnecessary services.

Well you learn something new every day

Tim and Spidey you have my apologies for not believing you both.

Although I have to say, the information I could find does not say anything about sending files to an Israeli Security Company, and I wouldn't exactly say that it was "well documented" either ... after all, there are MANY of us on here that use ZA that weren't aware of this, and after digging a little deeper, I only managed to find a ONE article and ONE reference to the fact that ZA contacts the CheckPoint servers even after all communications have beed switched off in the product.

See here (wikipedia entry)

And here (InfoWorld article)

Also, see here (how to disable ZA server communications)

(or you could use Tim's 'host file' suggestion )

However, after reading the references, it's not going to prevent me from using what is a very good product.

Thanks for the "heads up" tho

Cheers,
Pete

yes, youre right and i'm glad you dont take what i'm saying as gospel.

For that same reason i didnt put up any links as i would obviously choose the links that confirmed my story .... regardless of the quality of the site i got the info from.
I'd rather give you the info and let you do your own research and make your own conclusions.

I know i unistalled ZA as soon as i found out about this as at the time there was no easy fix.

And Perdo68....same applies mate. No need to appologise.

trust me....if i thought most of the users on here believed what i said as "the truth" i'd be making a lot more posts about "The amazing Spidey needs your donations to fight crime/ needs ladies to smother him in honey and throw him to a pit full of hunrgy wenches" etc
