I kind of agree. I have a stock can on my bike and whilst I love the sound, I dont like the size and the way it sticks up at the back. When I get a few more miles under my belt, a bit more money and some more time I'm going to have a look at buying a new can. There was an interesting article in a UK bike magazine this month about the rise in BHP and the rise in fuel consumption that you get after fitting a race can. Maybe they should fit them as standard.

I have checked the exhaust tones in goodie area. Nothing there sounds right to me though. All sound similiar. I think my problem is i like the way the gixxers,cbr's,r6's etc sound. Am not gonna get that out of this bike i can tell. Its funny though i cant stand the fart cans they have on civics here etc. Am a v8 rumble kinda guy, always was. But on bikes for some reason i love it. When i do decide to change the cans i think its not because of the sound, more for the looks. The stock can is WAY to bulky for my likings
Na you wont get the gixer/r6 etc sound...because your engine is v-twin, and they are in-line fours! Get the right exhaust though, and your bike will rival the sound of any V8 I personally prefer the deep rumble of a v-twin, especialy when letting the engine decelerate from 8000 rpm down to 3000 rpm in an area with high walls surrounding me...thats the overrun sound, and it makes me do a sex-wee

Ahhh yes it does sound sweet coming down from the revs. I havent gone over 8 grand yet but from 5-6 down to 3 sounds nice.

2 questions. When am cruising whats a good comfortable rpm to be at? Am usually riding along at 42-4500rpm. Its not to low where the bike seems to bog but not to high where its screaming. What do you guys cruise at?

Next one is what is the bhp restriction kit?

Welcome to the site. I am similar to you in that I passed my DA in August and have had an SV650S K3 for about a month now. I still have yet to get it to full throttle, still not got it above 8K and haven't had the balls to go above 80, but like you, I absoultely love it. It freels great when you open it up a bit and I love the sound. Still having the odd snag with the torque at low revs and have stalled it a couple of times but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. Guess I just need to rev it up a bit, but its all about the confidence. I have done about 200 miles since I bought it and have loved every single one. It would have been more but the weather here has been awful and I am not that confident in the wet yet. Also I am not overly keen to be out at night. Just roll on the Spring and I'll be bolted to it 24/7.

If you are interested in the sound of the exhaust, have you looked at the home of this forum, www.sv650.org and then click on the Goodies section. There are a number of sound bites there, although my favourite of the lot is the SV with no can at all. Not sure it'll go down well with my neighbours though.

Enjoy your new bike and ride safely. All the best

Stradders.
Stradders take your time with your bike your doing the right thing, I went err about 110 ish a while back and then slowed right down, I still haven't tested the bike to its limit yet! As with all us more you ride the easier it will be come! I did that after the bike had been run in, so that was after I did about 1000 miles.

33bhp kits are to limit the power output of the engine, in the Uk you can have a standard bike licence, which means you can ride anything long as it doesn't exceed the 33bhp output.....full licence means you can ride anything.

How do manage to ride in the US on permit, a full power bike like the SV, here a leaner permit is allowed nothing more than 125!! Have you got any pictures of your bike yet??

That cruising rpm sounds about right, just keep it where it seems comfortable.

The 33bhp restriction kit is something we are cursed with over in the UK, the consensus among the all-knowing goverment is that if you take your test while under 21, regardless of previous experience, then you have to restrict your bike for 2 years. Tossers.

There she is...

A motorcycle liscense is a motorcycle liscense here unless your 16 and restricted to a moped. When you have a permit your aloud to ride aslong as someone is with you that you know, within a 1/4 mile of you and 25 yrs of age in a motorcycle or a car. Most my driving is solo without anyone. If i get pulled over they just give me a 50$ ticket driving out of restriction. They wont take the bike or anything. So i chance it.

Let me vent a second here. First i would like to say doing a fender eliminater kit is no fun!. My dumbass forgot to check the package before i decided to take things apart. After an hour and a half getting all the nuts and bolts and clips off the bike it was finally ready for the kit i bought. I opened up the package to see a peice that was half asses put together. Looked like they painted it and through it in the plastic before it set. The finish prodeuct looked like someone took a heavy grained sand paper to it and painted it. I was mad! and there was no liscense plate hardware with it that they said would come. Got on the phone and was hot! the guy said he gonna ship me another one and hopefully this was a fluke. So now i got to wait another 7-9 days for this thing and hope its 100% better. Heres a picture of what i thought i was getting.

Nice and shiny right. Mine is nice and rough!

That blue bike isn't a naked...Check my profile pick, that's a naked (has a round light with out any wind protection). Your's is half faired, which is the stock non-naked version of the bike.

All we here in South Carolina have to do to ride is take a 25 question written test and we are off with a permit that allows us to ride alone with no supervision in daylight hours.

Killa, for your bike you can get the fairing lowers for it like mine if want....

You guys have it easy compared to use lot over here your laws are far more lax, I couldn't dream of getting on my bike until passed! Thats amazing that they let you out on a permit on a full power bike!

Just do as your doing take you time and get you licence! here we gets points for doing what you are, which would mean get done twice your banned asa new licence holder!

Those are fine revs to be at, thats what I use.

33 bhp restriction is our countrys way of clenching riders who pass their test under 21 by the balls, tight, for 2 years, against their will.
