I would love to have my tax code changed but unfortunately, My tax code is correct and that would be tax evasion
![]() As it stand I wouldnt be much worse of if I earned a fair bit less.......which in my eyes is completely wrong. What sort of country is it when you can earn less, do less but be better off.......if that offends anyone then my appologies but its a rediculous set up. |

i know this is prob wrong in alot of ppl's eyes but child tax credits is making it affordable for my wife to not work and stay at home looking after the kids, i think children benefit from this and enjoy this alot more than having to go to child care every day. i work with 1200 ppl at the Wolverhampton PO and alot of couples work there, its amazing to see the husband on the 6-2 shift then the wife on the 2-10 shift swapping the kids over at 2 o'clock on the car park? and when the kids are at school mom gets them up and to school then sees them the next morning to get them up for school? its like not having kids and just seeing a few at the weekend.

No I dont know the taxation system, why would I and how many people on here could say they actually do.......I know that the accountants who sort my tax out upstairs know the tax system and that I'm on the right tax code for my situation to give me the best possible outcome and thats all that matters. |

The statement that that earning quite a bit less means you would 'only' be slightly worse off shows you do not understand how taxation band thresholds are applied. Everyone should aim to minimise the tax paid (by legal means), if one of these is Working Tax credits or Child Tax credits, then fair play to them. I try for these every year and fail to get them every year, but am happy some folks get them and it makes a real difference to thier lives. |

I know my situation, i know how much i pay, i know how much i would pay if i earned more and if i earned less, and I know where i stand on it
![]() If it was my ideal world, we would pay very little tax and everything would be privatised. NHS the job lot......if i get ill i will pay for it then, not the rediculous amount I pay national insurance at the moment so scotland and wales can get free prescriptions. |

OK, now I have stirred the waters and got a few bites. Sorry I posted after an beer argument with a professional scrounger who refuses to work.
The message I get back from those of you who get these is that you get them because you don't earn enough. Is this a recognition that it is unfair to tax people on low incomes so they give some of the money back?. Surely then it would be easier to manage to scrap the system and raise the personal tax thresholds to say £10,000. That after all really is the minimum amount you need to earn in order to live without benefits. Set the minimum wage to reflect this amount and make the allowances transferable between established couples. This would take many out of benefits.

Personally I have nothing against people who rightfully claim tax credits.
It's the "professional scroungers" as tim puts it, that annoy me. If I was PM I'd force the lot of them to do voluntary work!!!! If the government HAS to give them benefits, then at least make the lazy f**kers EARN IT! Granted, there are people on disability that can and should be exempt - but only the ones who are strictly disabled to the extent that it affects their ability to work. Tim, I don't think raising the personal tax allowance would achieve anything IMHO ... the standard of living can differ a fair bit up and down the country, so what one person needs to live in Manchester city centre may not be the same as someone living in the Outer Hebrides. I agree that a fairer system is needed though. My $0.02 ![]() |

Some allowance and tax credits are fair enough.........but when you see a fat person parking in a disabled space, getting out of a car given to them by the goverment, paid for by the goverment......all because they have dodgy knees which is because they are fat.....its crazy, if these people arnt willing to help themselve why should anyone else.
There was a bbc documentory on it, more than half the poeple on disability are winging it and shouldnt be on it. Its the no good wasters that get my goat, not the people who perhaps genuinely need it. Last edited by G; 09-11-07 at 10:31 AM. |
