The WORLD CUP thread

At last the world cup tournament is to get underway properly. It's all cheers and tears from this point onwards. Ukraine are through but not the force they should be. Possibly the ugliest team to watch and play against also....Switzerland.

I guess many of us will be choosing a second team with our hearts and no doubt the Aussies and Ghana will get a lot of new supporters willing them on.

2nd team?

If England can't win it then I'll be transfering my support to Argentina


Why? They are good to watch, have been the best team so far, and I think that Riquelme and Maxi Rodrigues have been great.




If they don't win it then Spain for me...................I have them in the sweep at work

Jabba, perhaps you missed the sentiment in my post? I was referring to the backing of the under dogs and wishing them well. Jumping from England to Argentina aint no big gamble to my mind? :P

I tell you something that Argentina squad has got to be the ugliest I have ever seen! They even make Germany,(not well known normally in the beauty stakes apart from Claudia) look like a team of teen icons!

Good job those boys can play this game!

Near me, the place is flooded with Argies in their national colours every time they play. They are extremely proud of their team,which I guess is easy when you are favourites.

Nope!!! I just think that it's nice to see the best team should win because they deserve to*.

Sure, nice to see an upset or two during the the tournament but I know how I felt when England, who to my mind were the best team in 1990, lost to the Germans on penalties. It just seemed so unfair

Comfortable win.

However, I think they and their fans should be ashamed of their input into getting that Swede sent off. Despicable.

I wasn't watching, only seeing the result online as I'm stuck in the office. What happened there?

Fairly innocuous touchline tackle, German fell over.. Nothing harsh in the challenge, just a routine tackle.

Ref wasn't going to even whistle, but the German players badger him to blow-up, and demand the yellow card (the Swede's 2nd). Ref gives the card and Swede sent off.

Another German then pats the ref on the back as if to say "well done". Game over.

I don't think the Germans will consider that their finest moment of the tournament.
