Re: Vintage film cameras
I just got the x700 to fire a couple of times. Mirror is down now. I took the winder contact off and I don't think the mechanism was set right. Getting closer anyway.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Still playing with that? Maybe it hadn't finished its cycle. Sitting here drinking Jaegermeister and whisky and coke. Guess I will need to find that square then!

Re: Vintage film cameras
Yep. Definitely something not quite right under the bottom plate with the gears and rods which control the shutter. It winds on and co**s but it wont fire because part of the mechanism isn't moving to where it should. I'll open mine up tomorrow and compare, see if I can figure it out.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Lol. I'm playing with it while sitting in bed drinking whisky. Wife thinks I've lost it.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Maybe it slipped a tooth. I tried comparing it to the xgm x300 but couldn't see anything obviously wrong.
Found the square.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Missed out on a Lubitel 166b, a Tessar 50mm m42 and another lens for 3 quid by seconds. Gutted. On the upside I scored a nearly new set of soft panniers for 15 quid.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Sweet. What was wrong with it in the end? Have you got an X700 in your collection?

Re: Vintage film cameras
I've got one, yeah. I think it was one of the first ones I bought. Great camera. I love it.
The wind mechanism was sticking. See the grey disc in the base on the left hand side as you look? There's a silver button with a black rim which moves from 5 to 9 o'clock on the wind and then back to 5 to prime the shutter. Unless the wind was really quick and forceful, the button was sticking at around 7 o'clock meaning the wind on was complete but the shutter wouldn't fire. I had to push it back round. Have put a teeny tiny bit of oil in the fork at the end of the rod and on the cogs, and wound and fired it to loosen it up. Also, need to make sure there's plenty of tension on the spring under the winder on the top plate in order to snap the winder back at the end of the stroke, which also helps reset the shutter at the bottom. (I think it needs a bit more than I've done but I guess you'll be taking it off to put the black button back in) You definitely need one of these. PM me your new shop address and I'll send it back down. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
I would never have spotted that. I wasn't sure if you had one or not. Did you want me to send you the square first?
