This might be a controversial comment.....
I've noticed that poor drivers always seem to have dashcams.
I'm reminded of the Jasper Carrot joke. "My mother-in-law has never had an accident but she has seen hundreds"

I have a dashcam because of all the delivery drivers / over sized tractors / arrogant 4x4 drivers hooning around the lanes here. Its for my protection when some ******** comes around a corner and cannot stop, then tries pulling the '50-50 on a narrow road' ******** when its time to pay up. It records my speed to prove I was driving reasonably.

But there is one bloke in the village who drives at you waving at his dashcam like it gives him a right of way. I wave at mine and tell him he's a bad driver next time I see him.

Using your example Mike I think I could do with one on my bike. I've been exploring a lot of narrow lanes near me. It never fails to amaze me the speed that people drive at on these lanes. I had a close encounter at lake Vyrnwy a couple of weeks back on the west side of the lake which is quite twisty and narrow in places. Yesterday it was tractor pulling a trailer that came thumping around a blind bend. He had to brake so hard that the trailer fish-tailed. I think I'm safer on the B roads.
There's a real lack of awareness and no sense of caution with a lot of drivers.

The dashcam would show you stationary (stopped in the distance you can see to be clear) and the tractor 'emergency stopping' to avoid you. It would clearly show blame. A friend's daughter had quite a bad crash when a car reversed off their drive right in her path in a 40mph limit. The reversing driver claimed she had 'come out of nowhere' and must be speeding. Their insurance company was backing that idea for a reduced pay-out until they saw the dashcam footage..... paid in full.

My friend then sent the footage to the Police who did him for driving without due care, which he only did as the driver tried to wriggle out of it. So many drivers seem to think and act like nothing is their fault, mainly due to the lack of policing and therefore enforcement against bad drivers.

I had been thinking of a dashcam for the reasons I put in my previous post, but when I bought (rather than leased) my EV the thought of having something so expensive totalled by an eeejit gave me the push I needed to install one. Well I've actually installed two, as mine has a front and rear camera.

We don't have a dashcam in our car, nor do I have a helmet cam. I think there's a decent argument that many drivers with dashcams drive more carefully, because if they did report an alleged incident via Operation Snap, the police insist on unedited footage covering at least 1 minute before and after the incident. There has been many cases where the video submitted by the person reporting the incident has led to them being prosecuted as well as the person being reported.

But I certainly agree that there is a percentage of 'dashcam warriors' who seem to think that their on-board recording makes them some kind of Judge Dredd on the roads, dispening justice to anyone who gets in their way ....

I wonder if some dashcam drivers have had so many near misses that they feel they need the camera. Whereas it might actually be their driving that causes these incidents. I'm thinking of the driver who thinks that changing lanes without looking or driving too slow for the conditions causing frustration for those behind them.

It's just an observation.

I put one in the van after the incident last year when the guy turned near violent after he came round a 90 degree bend too fast and far out from the verge, smacking the vans mirror. Never thought about it before then

Yep. There's the attitude they can get away with **** by shouting and intimidation. Hence the rise of the "Karen" There is an allied notion promulgated by the barely legal crowd that informing the authorities makes you a grass.
