I agree with admin. In the standard wiring arrangement the only fuse between the reg/rec and the battery is the main fuse which is 30A.

(Unfortunately, I've never come across any information on the actual power rating of the generator itself. But it also makes sense that you want the regulator to be able to supply at least the max 'normal' current that the bikes electrical system might demand, which is up to the main fuse level in theory.)

Fuse in, and just need to hook the battery back up to the system now.

I'm thinking that the reg/rec has been slowly expiring for some time. I still have the Numax battery I replaced back in April, so out of curiosity I hooked it up to the Acumate charger. It came up to full charge within 15 minutes, with the multimeter showing 12.47v. Ran the meter across it again this morning and it's still reading 12.47v, so holding it's charge ok. The battery I sent back to Tayna is also ok and has arrived back with me in good condition, having tested ok in their workshop.

I now have two spare, serviceable batteries, one Numax, and one Enduroline, so if anyone is needing to replace theirs, let me know!

Good that you found the fault, is that the first reg-rec you've had to replace on the bike? If so, it's pretty good considering the age and mileage, despite the cost and hassle of replacement!

It is Craig. I also think it's done well, given the propensity of these older type reg/recs for expiring. 106,000 miles - I don't think it owes me anything.

Hooray! I have a running bike and a properly functioning charging system.

Now, where is the sun so that I can go and ride it?

Great news that you've fixed it.

Sadly I think the sun is generally about 10000miles to the south east (Sometimes I don't like what my friends in Oz tell me)

It was an awkward job as the small screws underneath the rear of the seat fairing are pretty manky and difficult to get at. I had to undo all the other fixings on the right hand side and carefully lift and swing the right hand plastic out of the way. It was a bit of a juggly struggle.
