How can you say that an IL4 has no mid range!!!

At 5500rpm (according to your graph) an SV shows around 45BHP a GSXR 1000 at the same revs shows around 70 BHP.

If you want more mid range just get a 749, you know it makes sense. The cost of your SV and all your mods and you could have a 2 year old one.

Like i said in the last post if you forget about CC's then it gets stupid! Thats why i compaired a similar CC engine! If i compair a SV thou to a gixxer 6 then the SV would clearly win! Sigh.

I CANNOT insure a gixxer thou, so that is why i didnt include it in my argument. + im pretty sure it would be very scary in winter and in the wet!

I looked at a few 749's they sell for about £5000 (cheapest). My bike i might get £2k part ex if im lucky.... that means i need to find £3k, also i do about 12-15k miles a year all through the year. Where on a 749 will i carry luggage? They arnt practical bikes!

I seem to have stolen this thread lol... Sorry!

I wouldn't call it a clear win, at 5500RPM there not far off being identical.

You're making the same basic mistake that everybody does about midrange. The SV's midrange is about 4000-6000 RPM, and if you compare any inline 4 600's power at that point the SV wins. But that's because it's not the IL4's midrange... At 10000rpm an R6 isn't revving any harder than an SV at 5000rpm, it's not wearing out any faster or under any more stress, and it doesn't feel like it's being thrashed.

Your dyno there shows the 675 walking away with it by just over 9000rpm, but the SV's done by then and the Triumph is barely out of its midrange. It has another 5000rpm to go.

Not that there's anything wrong with preferring an SV's power delivery- I like smaller engines and I like v-twins, I have no hankering at all for 130bhp, and the SV's delivery suits my tastes better. But that's not because it's better than a 600, it's just different.

I could've bought a tidy, slightly old Mille, or 2 SRAD 600s, or a K1 GSXR thousand. But, to look at it differently, I could have just about afforded a brand new SV650 plus a set of lowers and a seat hump, and maybe a GSXR shock and fork spring swap

Like i said i have tried the SV thou. I think it was a bad example but it didnt feel any good in the corners compaired to the 650, it felt like i was just plonked on top, it wasnt feeling great!

I am saving up to see what i might be able to get in a couple of years... If i feel i want another bike.

I have been looking at the aprilia 2003 model mille. Ive seen them for under £4000. It seems a very nice bike. But again money is the problem... As im not willing to pay stupid money with finance. Sigh.

I think ultimatly im happy with the SV650, it does what i want and can go fast when i want it to, i like the looks N' the sound is WOW. It is a very practical bike. All i want is for it to go a little better from the mid range revs because as you can see from the dyno i showed on page 3 the SV has a little hole at about 5-6k revs (look at the stock). If you fill this and put some good suspension and brakes on it will go damn quick.

Infact MCN tested a mintwin SV650, they got it within 3 seconds of the fastest 600 supersport times! (with much worse equipment and obviously around 60BHP less!!!) So im figuring that difference will be even smaller on the road. So why go for something else? Thats my opinion.

I am wanting to know how to get this midrange out of a pointy (most people seem to know how to do it to a curvy but not pointy) SV, not what bike to get .

Please help me!

That dip in the rev range at 5 - 6 is for the Euro emissions and noise regs.

So... you want IMHO

A new can or if you have the money a full system
Some kind of Filter, if you use the search function its been covered before
Then get your ECU remapped with a Yoshi box or a Power Commander.

That should fix the flat spot, and liberate a few more BHP but its alot of money for not much extra gain, which was the point I was trying to make, hence why I wouldnt bother. The suspension upgrade is where I'd spend my money then you can make the best use of what you have and also you'll stop better as you can extract more from the front brakes to as the front wont dive as much. In fact if you go downt the GSXR front end swap you'll even get better brakes into the bargain to.

Fair enough, but if you're going to make sweeping statments about not getting an IL4 as you dont want to your midrange reduced you're going to get picked up on because IMHO its not correct or accurate to say that. Which is all I was trying to get at.

The pnciples are the same, it's the same engine at the end of the day, and you start out with better cams too. It's just the numbers that are lacking here, and that's partly because you'll get contradictions. I've got no first hand knowledge and I'll not quote second hand because there's differing results.

Fair enough. Suppose what im meaning is id rather have a more idle engine, one that to make progress you dont have to rely as much on revs, which believe the V twin excells.

I think what ill do is look at the suspension, ive been keeping my eyes on fleebay for the K4-5 gixxer front end's not seen much as yet. I could do with making sure the insurance wont be silly first.

If i get a PC, will it only be fittable to an SV or if i do go for another bike will i be able to fit it to another bike and simply get another fuel map put on there?
