"Ok, I've been trying to bleed this thing for an hour now and I'm still getting bubbles!"......yeah, been there done that.

When tapping the brake lines with a spanner I always find it helps if you pick a favourite song and use the rhythm

I've searched everywhere for this stuff locally and can't find it, so I got some while I could. If it's anything like my tub of high temp copper grease it'll last forever so I don't mind paying a bit extra to make sure I have it.

I got my red rubber grease from Frosts, it was a good price but I ended up spending about £50 on other stuff Big toy shop.

I did my first brake fluid and brake service changes solo, did it eventually after about 2 hours of total frustration. What annoys me is sometimes you repeat the bleeding steps over and over for ages and nothing happens at all, then suddenly without changing anything, it works. That sort of thing honks me off every time. So I got a big syringe, and now I can do brakes from dry in about 10 leisurely minutes.

I got my little tube from a local motor factors. Was about a quid. That was a few years ago though

Can't imagine how long one of those tubs is gonna last.

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice. I've just test-ridden my rebuilt brakes and all is fine. However, I re-used the old seals as they seemed fine and cleaned up so now I've got a back up set of calliper seals! My 500g tub of red rubber grease looks like it'll last at least my lifetime.

The back brake is the next job (after the 18,000 mile service in the next two weeks).
