Yep . concur. As the missus pointed out it doesn't matter what the person in front stopped for - I should have been able to stop. I'm not trying to wriggle out of anything etc.. It's just one of those unlucky things - 'most' people that come off the ferry at aroung that time in the morning know each other because most of us are going to the same place to work...we all know it's a five minut drive straight thru' from the ferry to work. Day in day out...same people, same journey, sometimes wet, sometimes dry, sometimes on a Saturday. I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses - I'm just trying to build a picture and put the whole thing into some sort of context. At the point where the accident happened the speed limit changes from 30 to 40, it is just yards from reaching the top of an incline. The guy in the mini that stopped to let the other person out 'happened' to be visiting that day and so was not a regular on that route - in addition he actuallt knew and so recognised the person who was waiting to leave their driveway and so quite naturally I guess stopped, probably flashed his lights and...hey presto there's me doing a close up inspection of his exhaust pipe (eeeugh - not in the biblical sense you understand!!) Clearly I was following too close - fortunately for me the car behind wasn't and so stopped (I know the driver - good mate, even better now) The three scooter riders behind him were also too close for that speed evidently - but I know two of them - one lives across the road from me. I think the lesson here is, apart from the obvious thing of the distance/speed relationship thing is that no matter how many times you do that same journey (let's be honest - I'm sure sometimes we're on autopilot), each time only needs that one little thing to make all the difference in the world and so make it like a whole new journey. At times familiarity can be the enemy if we become blase to the expected and forget about the unexpected. Anyways - washed the bike down today because she deserves it - tweaked the chain, greased a few bits & bobs, still thinking about buying a new bikini fairing, waiting for a mirror from ebay and an indicator from the dealer. I am a quite miffed at my own stubborn foolishness when on the road on the bike - what I don't want to do is go down the route of questioning my own abilities and thinking whether or not I should be on two wheels. I'll be riding to work on Monday, bank holiday n'all, so the roads will again be different. I'll tell you what though - it aint half weird with only one wing mirror!! And the front fairing bit is shoved over to the left about a centimetre (it's fitted to sort of sub frame and I'm pretty sure that's where the misalignment is). So - secure in the knowledge that complacnce is out to get me, I shall pour myself another glass of Port as I am fully aware of the likelihood that I shall suffer with a minor headache/hangover etc tommorow morning. Cheers y'all. Oh - and bear - not getting at you (in case that's how it comes across) - just expanding on things for all readers/surfers. ![]()
