Same thing with the front brake reservoir, it's been filled past the upper limit up to the brim I think
Would the syringe work getting the excess brake fluid out of that as well? Sorry to hijack the thread... |

If there is any in there then I would just tip it out, as if you bike is still ok running after having to much oil then I would just leave it.
Who over filled it then? Last edited by Grinch; 20-05-08 at 09:53 PM. |

Yes, though its not a major thing for that as the limit is there as its difficult to get the lid and 'rubber seal' in without spilling any. I'd only worry if it went below the low line...

Problem is if overfilled that if it's massively overfilled, the slight expansion in the fluid when hot could cause the brakes to drag.

My bike (sv650sk2) was overfilled with oil for about 2 weeks (my dad filled it while it was on the side stand). After a 10 mile run I leaned into a turn and lost power - twisted the throttle but nothing there like there was not enough petrol getting through. The bike spluttered home and stalled 3 times, and it was very hard to find neutral when stopped. After that it wouldn't start and sounded very unhealthy.
An oil change and oil filter change and it started again (sounding a lot better), but leaning into turns it still doesn't have full power. I've now changed the air filter too (old one looked fine and there was only a drop of oil in the air box, but otherwise pretty dry. On a straight road when I open it up power is still not all there, and leaning into turns I am not confident it won't stall if cold. Finding neutral can still ocassionally be difficult and the sound of the engine is not as smooth as it was before. Should I try and ride it out as I think its getting better, or does it need to go in to the garage to be checked out? What might be wrong with it? Your help (and possibly reassurance I have not killed my bike) would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ant |
